@rocifier

That's a screenshot from the game engine.  I have this uncomfortable feeling that the char doesn't fit very well compared to X sprite, and i can't figure out why.

@Shanenopolis

Do you mean like this ?

Pixel Art / Studying Pixel Art with Megaman X sprites

Hi all,

I'm actually working on a game.

I made the game engine based on megaman X spriteset and tileset and now start to create sprites based on X animations (i'm not good enough to do the whole thing from scratch :/ )

I made a first test which doesn't work well ingame so i came here to get some C&C about what could improve the sprite integration.

What do you think ?

Thanks !

Decided in page 2 to do a 8 frames 360° of an upscaled version to define a design before spriting.

I'll then go with my own poses as suggested by @Friend.

So far :

EDIT ------------------

I slightly messed with the colors :

I used the same outline colors but now it looks messy...  ???

EDIT 2 -------------

After a bunch of tests and a mockup i think that my reference wasn't right.

I tried to take an original screenshot which seems more saturated. In this case the character is fitting way better in the scenery.

Is there any advice about how to make the char merge into the stage in a video game ?

thx

I was thinking about this but the fact is that the char isn't seen from a human viewpoint, actually it is more like 45? from the ground so if i put the feet too far behind you don't have the sensation of the character walking on the ground but digging in it.   :-\

Added some features :

Belt moving so as to read the twisting of the lower part and started the back animation :

I think you should add one more lighter highlight color in the hair and  enhance the contrast by putting shadow behind the right arm and leg :

i tried with some more powerful contrast by putting dark brown in some places you will figure out.

But overall the sprite is very good and i'd like to see it move :)

i messed up with the time when the char has to be close to the floor and when he lift up. i think it's better like this.

Hi Everybody,

I'am redoing an old sprite with the techniques i learned from this forum and redoing the animations :

first of all new and old sprite :

I would like some C&C if possible so as to have a good looking 4 frames (can't add more) walk cycle :

Thanks  :)

Thank you very much for the edit, i see what you mean by the more natural stance and balancing.

Seeing your edit make me counscious of the anatomic problems my sprite has. I'am stuck because i already did a lot of animatiosn for the game and can't go back now with a style like yours  :(

i'll try to go later on with some things like you did.
