Thanks, I understand that being simple with the colours can make getting the values easier, but I wanted to keep them in, personally.

Is he twirling the sword in front of his face? I think because the "swish" of the sword movement never obscures his face, he looks a little like he's chopping through his neck

Wow Thanks everyone for the help!

 |||| I absolutely love that style, my main gripe with mine was that the face looked so flat. Can I ask what kind's of things you used for reference etc? I would love to use a style like that, but I'm not sure I could keep it up for the rest of my portraits!

I'm going to take all the advice and do an update later when I'm not at work. Thanks again!
