[WIP] Dragon on a rock

on: October 18, 2011, 10:16:32 am
I did a quick sketch the other day and this morning decided to refine it until I had this.

But now I'm a bit stuck. I know there are a few problems, but I just can't see where. That and I'm not sure the rocks look right, so I left it slightly unfinished just in case you guys agree. Less work for me then I guess. Maybe I've just been looking at this for to long  :mean:
Any critique is welcome.

I hate rocks. ok, I said it. I still need to clean up a few pixel clusters like on the legs and wings and get rid of a few stray looking pixels. Any suggestions particularly with the rocks would great.  :)

Hmm.. I actually cant find anything to complain about then just some light issues. The light source hits the rock from the left side and creates a quite clear shadow to the right.
If the light source is where it is, then some of the parts on the right side should not be that lit. for example his tail or the small piece of rock just below it to the right.

Perhaps you can make the shading more contrasted and I would also add some other features like a bit of fire coming out of his mouth or something, and add that additional light to the rocks.

Hope I made my point!

Light is just so confusing :-[ I try to have one light source but even that can be tough with how light reflect and bounces off objects. I'm trying to fix light problems when I see them though, wish me luck. I'm still trying to fix a contrast issue and trying to get a happy medium with every object in this.

As for the additional light source, I'll see what I can do. I'm dreading it :watev: But I'm optimistic things will look fine.

Here's an update.
