Pixel Art / Re: Character walking animation C&C

It looks nice overall, but there are a couple of things that catch my noob eyes:
 - the arms movement is way too asymmetrical, as the furthest arm reaches too much behind (had it mirrored the other arm behaviour, it would not even show) and does not show the same down->up-ahead movement when popping up in front;
 - the head seems to be moving a bit too much.
Besides that - but probably this is just a matter of personal preference - I'd say it would benefit from smaller eyes.

General Discussion / KOG, a new game pixellers can have double fun with
« on: January 17, 2008, 06:20:23 pm »
Hello everybody,

I would like to inform you that I have just released a new little game, called KOG. You can download it for free from its website, where you can also find plenty of information.
I am presenting it here on Pixelation because pixellers can have fun with it not just by playing it, but also by creating themes for it! - the game is fully themeable and since it has been indeed designed with pixel-art in mind, the resolution is perfectly suited for hand-pixelled art. For information about how to create themes, please have a look at the "THEMES" page of the website (but feel free to ask questions directly here as well).
It is important to stress that all the credit (and blame :P) for themes goes to their own authors. They are free to choose whatever distribution license they please. I will in no event ask for money from them.

I hope you will enjoy the game and that I will have the pleasure to see some themes from you :)

Enjoy,
saimo

Saimo, I'm quite sure that the dark side and the light side of the shield are placed right.
I stand corrected. I looked at the piece in a hurry and did not evaluate the lightsource direction. Sorry. What fooled me, I think, is the direction of the lines: they make the shield appear as if is convex rather then concave (with respect to the handle).

I dont know how to shade the shield properly and it looks flat
I'd rather say it looks "inversed": IMHO the brightness and the direction of the lines of the two halves should be swapped around.

Something about the perspective seems off on this piece. I think it might be the top of the palace wall. It looks like we should be able to see some of the top of it perhaps
Maybe moving the part above the bottom row of roofing tiles further back will give it more depth.
As for the rest, gotta love the dragon (the green one on the wall, that is): the eyes give a Rumiko Takahashi feel to it ;D
I just wonder whether it is too peculiar for tiling? ???

Wow, this is just superb! :o
Pixelling-wise, the technique is ace; tile-wise, I guess not much more can be accomplished with a single tile :y:
The only thing that does not convince me is the top of the trees: the leaves themselves are beautiful, but the way they fade to dark rather gives an impression of flatness and over-stretching... edit: another factor that contributes to this impression is that leaves perspective changes too little.
Dunno, maybe it's just me being unable to read it :-\ Can't explain it any better, sorry :-[

Arne, your smilies just rock!!! They're fabulous! :-*
No offence meant to the contributors of the Smilie 2007 activity, but if it were for me, I'd use these ones ;) :P

In particular, you did a thing that was lingering in my mind: you gave depth to the track-guards by adding dark lines under them... that's definitely a thing I should add to the original design (I guess I'll add just one line, though) and that will give me the chance to upload a newer edit that has also a couple of updated pixels.
So, here's the promised (last) update: .
Now, as Jad said, it's really time to move on! ;D

That's really well achieved, seeing as your path into pixelling is hard work, rather than talent. Your concept of shading, nice colour ramps and such is on a good level, i'd say. Also dithering is working well.
I did not expect comments... this good! :o
Probably my actual skills looked better than they are thanks to the simplicity of the piece... but, hey, your words are very encouraging and much appreciated! :-*

May I suggest that you polish this a bit further with, say, a bigger piece? For exampe, to take some lines from the lineart thread and color them? That way, you'll have a good opportunity to study the original lines, as well as an opportunity to get quality feedback from us, the forum members <3
That's a good idea, although, on the other hand, also sketching is something I have to improve on. Well, what can I say... if I some lineart over there turns out to be particularly appealing, I might well give it a try. Let's see...

You know we'll be standing by ready with the best critique and edits we can manage :D
I have no doubt about it ;)

Right now all I can say is Move On! That is, if you feel like it. :]
I definitely do. Only problem is lack of time and energies :( And just today coding is going to burn my brain cells a lot :blind:, so I'm afraid I'll have to hold my lust for pixelling :'(
