Add another frame to the fire animation, and recoil that affects the lil' dude.
And for the steam, have it be more *puffs coming out* instead of a smoker breathing.
The gun itself looks off too, not detaily enough. Take a look at the M1919 for a bit inspiration.

You could just make a standard square tile and you could then use that texture on all of the three planes through 3D models.

With 2d you have to do the drawing-to-mind thing yourself, whilst in 3d the z axis does this.

The colors there are a bit too green and the characters doesn't really fit in at all.
Try making the brick redder.

Yeah well they are stupid cause it's not r eally graphics that count, it's the fun you hvae playing it and how the controls are.
even more realistic games aren't possible before we get "better" controls to pc.
