Good points but eishya's edit totally missed out on the grunge/noise in the original pixel. OFC you want to clean up, it's looking really rough, but keeping some of that roughness added to the vague/horror feel. Keep the wacked out proportions also, this ain't the vitruvian man we're dealing with.

I'm trying to get the idea behind this, purple guy in a hazard suit? That's as far as I got.

Other than this, fairly appealing design, concept art is rickety but the details are big and it translated well to pixel art. Animation needs way more polish, you'll get there but dude, just don't call it done yet :) Looks like he comes from the world of Rayman, maybe Pikmin, we'll have to see more of that universe to say for sure.

I know it's a background prop but contrast could really be pushed here. Loads of pillow shading here too.

Another thing in addition to what eishya says, you have to pull out the shadows under the moss, make it look solid. I totally know that's a cheat, IRL moss you can't really see. But a rule of thumb I use is the smaller the rez, the more you have to blow up/exaggerate the crucial detail to make it read. Usually you do that or you scrub it out altogether (about this dichotomy, think character heads with huge eyes/heads with no faces).

That is starting simple, that's pretty good. The last thing you want to do as a newbie to a skill is overstep yourself and your skill, a simple tileset is a good metric IMO. Rez might be an issue tho if you can't cut it down to 16^2 tiles for the sake of practice.

EDIT:
Riffing on the first 32x32 tile

Pretty complex stuff here, I can't wrap that up into 1 coherent post targeting 1 piece. All I can say is start with the basics, shading, color etc., what goes way beyond pixel tech. Check out the pixelart/various lists under Tools, Resources and Linkage here. Way more...but that's it right now.

It's a long road ahead, but enjoy it man.

Yo!

Image is way upscaled, the board has a zoom function, click in, shift+click out. Better to critique its specs when we have the raw pixels to probe and observe. (Not sure if the rule is becoming any more lax than when it was first laid out many years ago when displays were tinier.)

Cool design. Castlevania-like bg tiles?

Anatomy needs loads of work, when you've tightened this up the shadows play to that as well. Right now there's a load of banding (shadows are following the outlines but not the form) on the gargoyle guy, I think I can point to that as part of the problem.

Will drop an edit here + more to this post in a bit.

EDIT:

So here it is. It's been a while...but you can see it in action.

You're on point with your redraw of the 1st one, just tighten up the banding a bit more, cut out some colors and you won't have a problem revamping the 2nd. Edit has some anatomy pointers but it's hella rough and off in parts so I'd advise using proper reference.

@Indigo
Nah...it is a minor project in itself. Even if it is a doomed effort here, just wanted to see more quality assets out in the wild ;)

Pixel Art / Re: Girl idle animation (Zelda-like view, looking for advices)

more gold from WINGED DOOM :D

The animation of the tiny demon guys is great, the floating girl tho would gain a lot from being smoother like that. Looks like first pass (rough animation) so far. Sure this could be fixed.

IE, timing of ease-in and ease-out could be refined, hair, legs and breasts could follow the main movement of torso (follow-through), sneak some subpixels in there as well if you know that. I also wanna see the hair blowing around more but that depends on visual direction.
