Pixel Art / 32x32 Psychic boy

Trying to branch away from solely creating sprites for mini-game projects, one of my first doodles... Just thought I'd post it here to see what erryone [sic] thinks.

Pixel Art / 3-color upward breeze animation
« on: July 27, 2011, 12:53:07 am »
Ugh, having a lot of trouble making this look like what it is supposed to and not like whimsical magic effects.

Here is the breeze chunk as seen in-game (shown against sky-color background):

Here is a single air gust or whatever it would be called:

Right now it looks like mini-fireworks or magic flying worms moreso than it resembles an actual strong wind breeze. I really don't know how to give the animation more flow.

Pixel Art / Big ol' Robot Amp w/ Wire tentacles [C+C]
« on: June 26, 2011, 02:00:20 am »

Working on logo for a friend's project. Final product will include robotic drones being controlled by the wire tentacles (plugged into the back of their heads) rocking out on traditional rock&roll instruments that are all robotified as well. Still need to play around with drone designs...

BUT! I'm fairly happy with the general shapes and colors of this amp, I hope...

This shading on the body+headphones satisfied me more than no dithering or random pixel dithering, but I'm not sure how well it helps the image.

Wires are definitely... I'm not sure about the smoothness of wibbly-wobblyness in them, and some of them have uneven thickness in places. This and the fact that they are kind of jagged I will be fixing once I finish a rough of the whole scene (including the background), and can AA them.

All comments or criticism/critique welcome! I kind of want this to be super cool.

Pixel Art / Lava/Volcano Golem [C+C]
« on: June 10, 2011, 02:32:46 pm »

The 16 color palette shown is primarily red/orange on purpose: the game I'm making this for has the character able to switch between three color palettes to alter the game world between red (fire), green (grass/earth), and blue (water/ice).

Not sure how I feel about this guy... he's supposed to have a little rock mask with a yellow face on it where he drools out lava... and a volcano-hump-back.

Haven't yet started work on any of the tilesets (aside from the lava) and I have absolutely no backgrounds aside from the red sun thingy...

Any critiques would be greatly appreciated :D

These sprites are for the character of a game I'm working on using Gamemaker. I found it very difficult at first to animate the hair-fire in a way that satisfied me. Still unsure about the walking cycle.

Standing Animation
Walking Animation
Jumping Up (in air)
Falling (in air)
Also here he is as a still in a position to push a crate, not sure about how the profile looks...

Along with the little guy above I've worked on a grass haired and an icy haired guy below. I'm fond of the grass-hair guy because it's fun to make his hair sway when he jumps and runs, but I really don't know what I could do with the ice-hair guy: his hair remains static aside from the occasional gleam.

P.S. Extra additionally here is a still frame of a limbless dragon boss I am working on for the first level, shown here preparing to hock a lava loogie:

Animating this big guy is very difficult for me... all of this is essentially my first work with spriting after I got tired of using my place holding blocks. Any help or comments would be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :)
