Wait, been a while since I've been here. How do you insert images again?
Click on the "Mona Lisa" icon (1st of the second row), then paste the image address in between the img tags.
But it's gotta be the image address, not the address of the page where it's hosted.

Like:
Code: [Select]
[img]https://i.imgur.com/7Kv4MJj.png[/img]
Which gets parsed as:

And not:
Code: [Select]

I did a couple more variations:

-----

Yeah, I was going to tell you to do exactly that: Begin with a sillouette and layer lighter and lighter colors on top. But understanding the forms comes before that.

But do keep drawing, man. These things take time and practice.

The horizontal/diagonal subdivision? They don't have to be, it depends on how little fat one has in their body, how well defined they are, but I like giving them those sorts of separations in my drawings...
It's this kind of thing (excuse the goofy picture): https://i.pinimg.com/originals/50/f6/e9/50f6e9c5394064276edebb9bef177279.jpg
EDIT: Another one: https://onnitacademy.imgix.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/sizzlechest.jpg

On the shadows, it's a bit of a guess, but I do believe there should be cast shadows there if the light comes from the top. The torso blocking the light that would hit the hips. Maybe. I'm not really sure.
I should have added some under the head (over the pecs) too, though.

EDIT2: Kind of like: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/2e/d0/c6/2ed0c62a9e7e3a79f0bede373a57c758.jpg
But in my mind the minotaur's torso wouldn't be perfectly straight.

And yes, drawing traditionally. That will help immensely.
There are 3D models around that you can spin and memorize the forms of the body, and use as reference when you're drawing.

I did something:

-----

Alright, worked a little bit more on it. Only gave attention to the torso, arms and hands.
EDIT: And shoulders.

EDIT 2: Laps and shins and whatnot polishing something something etc. because my OCD won't leave me alone.

Oh, I removed one of the darker colors because it was too close to another one.

-----

Overall my advice is: Draw. Work on the big forms. Then add a bit of detail. Study anatomy. Learn the overall shapes of the muscles, their origins and insertions.

Aseprite, which seems most people prefer using, is pretty cheap at $20, and there's a free trial version.
Some people use GraphicsGale instead, which is free. https://graphicsgale.com/us
And others even use the old MSPaint.

As for tutorials, there's plenty at Lospec:

General Discussion / Re: Please help with determining canvas size
« on: November 09, 2020, 06:04:40 pm »
1 pixel in that image is 2x2 pixels in reality (it's been resized by 200%), so you should divide by 2.
Then you could double or triple its size to display it online. Except here on Pixelation or other pixel art forums.

But your canvas can be as large or as small as you want...

Yeah, pillow shading is the equivalent of taking a photo with the flash on. It doesn't give you great lighting.
So pick a position for your light (top left or right, bottom, etc.) but not straight at the character.

Good drawing, though, especially the silouette (which is very important for readability) and good colors, only there are IMHO too many of them. You could probably do about the same with a dozen or fewer.

I really like what you're doing here, style-wise, whether that's intentional or not. It kind of reminds me of Dave McKean's...

Still, I made some changes to her face and neck.

As for the cloth, I'm not sure I can help. Maybe check some references, like these photos?

Yeeeah, it depends on what you wanna do with it, but it would improve the piece and I guess would help you to improve your skills if you added shadows whilst, if possible, tried to keep a limited (small) number of colors.

Right now everything is pretty flat.
