Pixel Art / Bathroom Wall
« on: December 23, 2015, 07:39:27 pm »
Hello guys!

I'm trying to design a bathroom wall for my game. The previous version had a bland, boring single pink color. I'm trying to find a pattern to fill in the void so to speak.

I looked at reference pictures and got this:

Source: http://www.tileideaz.com/small-blue-bathroom-tiles.html

So I decided to add a floor moulding and did this:

But then I figured it was too busy for a background so I did this:

I reduced the saturation and brightness of the background basically.

I like the way it looks but I'd like some feedback about it. I think it looks a lot better than how it used to be before:

Let me know how you think the background I'm working on right now could be improved.

Thanks!

Pixel Art / [C+C] Stage Select Conundrums
« on: September 13, 2015, 04:06:03 pm »
Howdiho!

So while I still got the title screen on the backburner for a while, I decided to give the stage select a shot.

The idea is to reproduce something which Megaman players will be familiar with:

I don't want to go ahead too much before the design is set in stone so that I don't do the same thing 15 times like for the title screen.

This is the concept I have right now:

So, of course, the idea is to have Pan look at the selected stage.

Is the setup ok? Do you think I should go ahead and detail the living shit out of that Stage Select screen?

Please accept my salutations and most beneficial blessings.

Z.

General Discussion / Double-Posting
« on: August 10, 2015, 05:30:09 pm »
Hello!

Could have more lax rules regarding double-posting? I find the current rule to be needlessly strict.

I can understand not double-posting twice a day but after a week, I think it'd be reasonable to double-post.

Sometimes you've made progress on a certain piece (which is my case at the moment) but can't reply because no one else has replied. I could create a fake account to submit a reply but that's beside the point. The objective here is not to circumvent the rule but to suggest having a more functional one.

I read the rules and it just said: "no double post". I think this should be nuanced somewhat. The Pixel Joint Forums don't have this rule and I have yet to see some abuse about this.

Thank you for reading.

Pixel Art / [C+C] Title Screen Conundrums
« on: July 29, 2015, 07:45:35 pm »
Hello guys!

I have no experience making title screens or compositions in general. On the other hand, I am under the impression that a title screen can make or break a game (to some extent).

So I need help with just about anything. Mostly composition from the pros, who can guide me in the right direction.

1st version:

2nd version:

3rd version:

Should I stick to one font or should I use many?

The idea is to have the main character sit on a top of ruined robots. He is blowing the smoke of his volt gun.

Am I along the right path here?

Pixel Art / Waterrific: animating water
« on: July 11, 2015, 07:25:34 pm »
Hear ye, hear ye!

Guess what? More water!

This is to replace the static water of my game.

This is what I have so far. Keep in mind that this is for a game that looks like this:

So something ultra-realistic isn't necessarily the best choice (which I've learned from the splashing animation).

Hey folks!

You know the drill, rip it apart (Anthing besides the contrast?)

(it's a humoristic spin on Jason, the horror movie dude):

Thank you!

Pixel Art / A Matter of Perspective...
« on: March 09, 2015, 05:21:01 pm »
Hello guys!

I have a question about perspective.

Here's a screenshot of my game:

At the moment, I'm creating new elements to decorate things but I'm really struggling with the perspective.

Normally, you would have a single or many VP. With a "static" background like here though, I don't understand according to what angle I should create new elements and this is bothering me immensely.

Normally, I would be able to use a VP to give me an idea as to how to proceed but now I can't. I could use a strict side-view perspective (like Mario) but I don't like the way it looks.

Ninja Gaiden pulled it off nicely:

I can see some parallel lines here.

Where would be mine in my screenshot however?

Normally I'd have a VP like so:

But here I obviously don't.

So yeah, I'm confused.
