Challenges & Activities / Re: Hexquisite Corpse 4

I know some tiles are "done" already, but I think every side that is adjacent to another tile should be animated.
In cases where this is not the case and the sides are not neighboring anything yet they should be edited.

Worst case here is Grossly Incandescent's tile, which does not really have any animation that goes beyond the edge. Just the 2 cents of an old fart.   :y::)

Looking good so far, maybe I can join in later as well (late July)

I have my doubts about things like Secret Santa, Pixelator, or the Hexquisite Corpse Activities as well.
Even things like Commercial Critiques would be weird on something that is more like Twitter, imo.

We have to see what works best.

The database we are using IS the Pixelopolis one. :)

But yeah it was
-Blue Pixelation
-Pixelopolis with new database because hack and lack of proper backups
-Pixelation again with Pixelopolis Database
-Bunch of server moves to where we are now.

I just want to point out that that pixel of AA on the top left of the head (the curve) makes the head look pointy and changes the shape of what was originally intended. AA should never change the intended underlying shape (think of it as a theoretical shape that exists at a higher resolution), but only make the appearance smoother.

Yeah, this has all to do with how things get scaled, like whether or not there is filtering and such.

In the original Doom engine, if you made a room that is really high and put a small repeating texture on it (like a switch) and went really far away you would at once point see the whole massive wall look like a giant switch at the right distance. Same effect.

It depends, in some cases tile flipping is more useful. It depends on where you save more space.
The major drawback on the SMS is that you can not really design tiles in such a way to easily swap colours, and as such saving space on the rom. On the NES you can do that, because you got 4 bg tiles. From what I understand, if you made the same block 4 times, using different palettes. That would still take up space in one of the tables (nametable or something, Kasumi would know), but only 4 tiles in the tiles (assuming a 16x16 pixel block here, because of the tile colour attribute size)

If you wanted to make the same thing on the SMS you can have the colours to do that for sure, but it would be 4 times as many tiles, so quite wasteful in that sense.

For straight pixelling the SMS is probably easier, once you get a good palette from the 64 possible colours worked out. Though I have to say I personally find the NES a lot more interesting to work with. But then again I really like minmaxing palettes etc (which is really crucial on 16 bit systems like the SNES, MD, etc.)

Neat, this is looking really nice. :)

As far as palette restrictions goes you are almost correct. The sprites can only use 15 colours, as colour 0 of that palette is transparent. BUT the background tiles can use the sprite colours as well. The only thing I am not certain about right now is whether colour 0 of the sprite palette can be used on in the tiles or if that is always colour 0 of the bg palette.

And of course that is an either or thing, you can use the colours of one, not of both, per 8x8 tile.

Really weird and disturbing pic, 32. I really like it.

Tomic: Glad you like it, I will probably tweak it a bit more in the coming weeks before it goes up on PJ as well as finalise the video with the final version steps and add some music.

Great work everyone. Merry Christmas and all that jazz :)

I'm in! Been a while for me :D

I like stuff that is both cute and twisted at the same time, or just weird things.
Specific things I like:

Skeletons, insects, robots, weird monsters/demons, cute stuff with a twist.
Be creative :)

Yeah, I can agree with that statement. Also please don't quote entire posts like that, does not help with seeing what is going on. You can just address me by name in your reply, that's enough.  ;)
