Here's a little update. I decided to go with a normal looking human character. It feels more safe.

Posting in defence of heavy makeup and high saturation (see avatar<<)

Just try to focus on the structure and shading of the face in value (ie. black and white/shades) and then you can apply the makeup over those values in the pattern you want using hue. Just remember that the edges of the makeup are not the edges of the forms of the face so any highlight and shadow should extend through the boundary of said makeup. Just try to define the forms of the face a little more, some more shadow under the brow ridge and more defined cheekbones would help immensely.

Keep it up, I'm liking it :y:

I gave the face more shape with light and shadow.

I honestly quite liked the tiger lady. Sure, perhaps a normal woman is more "safe," but it's also more generic. It's my personal preference to have games that have a more unique aesthetic and aren't afraid to go outside the box a little.

Don't sacrifice your ideas just for the sake of being "safe," in my opinion.
