I like the white-haired characters the best 
What I don't like is the full-black without any detail, especially since you're mixing the two styles on the same sprite (i.e. one sprite has some shaded parts and some flat black parts).
Why do they not have feet?

I think it looks very nice. The shirt looks...maybe too dark, or too saturated? I think you should go for some highlights on the face, in addition to your shadows.

I voted no because I already go here for pixel art and I don't too much enjoy forums about the other topics.
Before you start a forum, introspection is in order (at least, it can't hurt) -- what is your reason for starting a forum, and what do you hope your forum becomes? Are you dissatisfied with the other forums covering these topics? If so, why do you want to start a new place instead of improving the old places?
I'm not saying the idea is bad, or good. I'm just saying you shouldn't do it until you can explain honestly to yourself why you're doing it. (Understanding your own motivations gives you a twelve times better chance of building something worth building)

Updated and possibly finished, but c&c still effusively appreciated (see reply #4 for the deepest desires of my heart)
Ok, one thing that really bugs me is that the kid is supposed to be looking at the snowman, but now it looks like he is staring out of the picture, and is faceless like a Nazgul, but looking at the viewer.
Does anyone else see this as a problem, or have I just been looking at it too long? I can't figure out how to fix it =(

P.S. The snowman is wearing my favorite hat in the whole world, if you were wondering about that.

The nice thing about a limited palette is that if done correctly, it improves unity tremendously. I personally like the color reduced one a little better 
because it looks like "one sprite" instead of a dress-me-up doll with different colors for each part of the sprite. But you're right...they both look equally good, and honestly I'd never guess that one had less colors.
