Pixel Art / Re: Too bright colors?

Nice to see you've overcome your fears. The new colour is much better.
But you have to work on the leaf trees. They don't fit anymore.
Good luck!

EDIT: Oh man. This edit wasn't made by Beetleking. Just ignore me. :P

Not much to say about this: More planes and more circles. I start to feel comfortable about straight lines. The circles are a mess, since they are fixed with four points.
In some strange way the excercises are fun. :)

PS: You can see my new pen too. It's doing a good job.

Pixel Art / Re: Neko Girl

I liked the first neko girl the most. She looks very lively and the tail seems to start at the right place. Her pose is interesting and there is this glow in her eyes.
What I don't like about the others is the fact, that their hair looks more like wigs. The colour of the hair looks unnaturall. Try to seperate the ears with at least a darker tone of the hair colour. You want to point out that special thing, the ears, that differs them from "normal girls".
Additional, there is a lot of hair for small heads like this.
Anime characters have a big focus on the eyes or cool poses. In most cases the hair is just there to frame the eyes or to give the character some movement. Your pictures seem to focus on the hair. That's why both, character and hair, don't fit together.

I did that value study to follow ambi's kindly advice.
Drawed some circles too. I spare you the details.  :)

Pixel Art / Re: [C+C]Need the Roast for Improvement

This is a good start. She has a lot of character. I can imagine her doing some serious stuff. Like handling an alien invasion. She is tough.

Here is what you can improve:

Darker pixels tend to be less substantial then the brighter once. They vanish into the background. That's why you don't have to give her back a "round" shape. Just make it a straight line and the dark pixels will do their dirty job. (Like in Tacos edit.)
The same goes for her knees and the "hole" in her stomach.
Maybe you can improve the shape of the girl with that in mind.

I also think that are way to much colours for that small sprite, especially the greens.

Have fun!

Shortened it.  I'm starting to think I should rework the slash.  It doesn't have the effect I want.

Even if the blade appears out of nowhere, he KNOWS this and will squeeze it into his enemy's body. At the current state, he just stands there and let the blade do all the work.

That's my third post in a row. I'm sorry.

Today I started to work on a grasshopper character.

I'm not sure how anthropomorphic I want to look it like.
This is something that comes close to my imagination: http://pre01.deviantart.net/ab3a/th/pre/i/2010/178/f/5/grasshopper_guy_by_darkkitsunegirl.jpg

As I'm not going to finish the avatar, I'm up for your ideas what I should do next. It's okay to ask, is it? I'm happy with every guidance.

Just for your information: My straight lines approached the second dimension.
