Pixel Art / Question about color palettes and amount of details in my pieces

Hello!
So, I've recently showed my friend (who's a good pixel artist) some random things I made and asked for feedback.
He only said that I need to use color palettes, so I said that I use them (AAP-64 mainly)
And he replied that I don't use them properly and I have to use less colors.
Tried asking him more, but he only kept repeating himself about pallette.
But what if I need a lot of detail on my pixel art? (for example in the pic, I made a guitar and needed to show that the strings are a bit transparent)
I know that some pixel art might use a very small amount of colors for retro look or whatever, but what if I need a bit more? AAP-64 was good enough (although in the pic I sent it some pieces use different palettes)
