Thank you for the tips!! I tried some things with color (will probably continue tweaking those since I don't really know what I'm doing) 
and will get to tweaking the animation next.
are there any good guides on color usage with pixel art or colors for art in general somewhere online you could recommend?
edit: changed some colors on the first one!
