[C + C] Smoke sprite help

on: January 01, 2017, 08:55:24 pm
Here is a man with a cigar in his hand of which smoke is trailing off.

Honestly it looks quite fast to me. How can I slow it down, and how can I make it look more realistic?
Should I make the smoke higher, different shades at different heights? Any and all help is appreciated, thank you!

I was planning on doing an edit to illustrate my point but unfortunately, Comcast happened.
I'll try to be descriptive. First, try to keep the smoke as one line, rather than scattered particles. Treat it like a slow moving sine wave, or a rotating curve. If you want inspiration, there's a series of french smoking adverts from i think the sixties I adapted this method from, I think in the art nouveau style if you need extra terms for googling them. I'm not sure if that's the right one though, so hopefully someone else knows what I'm on about!

I took a stab as following MysteryMeat's advice. I first made the smoke move in a sinewave, then when back and made the amplitude increase halfway up- which was pretty tricky, mathematically what I did didn't like up and ended breaking the smoke up, which kinda works I think:

Wasn't expecting you to program it but it looks pretty solid! You can try tightening it's arc for a slower billow, too!

Oh hah, I didn't program it, I drew a sine wave and then halfway up I scaled the amplitude by 2.
Programming it would be cool if this is a game character who moves around or something though
