Devlogs & Projects / [Quest] The Fair-Use Follies of MegaDude!
« on: March 11, 2016, 12:03:10 pm »
(Author's note: this is an experiment, so rules are going to be pretty loose.
This is a Quest-format adventure, meaning I draw the world and put up obstacles for you to overcome while you get control over your protagonist MegaDude. Suggestions will be taken as thoughts running through the protagonist's mind, spurring him either to action or back sass. Sometimes both!
This isn't going to be a particularly serious quest, mind, but if this test run is successful I might do more! Maybe! We'll see!  :y: :y: :y:

Also, if you see a ">_", that's a prompt to enter the next slew of commands!)

Your name is MegaDude. You came into existence in 2003 when a 15 year old boy in japan tried to make a game for his terrible original character (you).
He got about halfway through drawing your spritesheet, the startings of a tile set, and managed to sort-of cobble together the first level. Kind of.

Then he just quit entirely, leaving you stranded here with only one functional attack, your PEASHOOTER.
You have no jump animation, you slide across the ground instead of walking (let alone running), and you can only face right.
Frankly, your life sucks rancid donkey butthole right now.

Finally tired of not being able to even look left, you've decided to make your way into an actual game through your own grit and determination.

But first, you have to figure out how to get out of this horrible glitchy waste.
Thankfully, your programmer wasn't exactly great at coding, so this shouldn't be TOO hard to break completely, right?

General Discussion / So where would I put a quest, anyhow?
« on: March 11, 2016, 06:30:30 am »
For context, a Quest is a reader-driven webcomic type thing.

It can be run a variety of ways, but most common is a sort of simplified "dungeons and dragons" type where users control the character's actions while the quest author dictates the setting and situations.

What board would I be best served starting one of these on do you think?
Pixelation seems like a cool place, if a bit slow, and I'd like to try this out as an experiment with the community here.

An example of sort of thing I'd be posting, hosted on tgchan.org:

Pixel Art / [CC] Phase-shifted planet
« on: March 09, 2016, 11:10:50 am »
So, I'm joining a DnD campaign with a neato setting and decided to do a mockup of the game world.

As it's been explained to me, someone decided it'd be a great idea to shift a planet from one dimension to another without thought for what might already be there, resulting in both shattering against each other and the two cores merging, eventually forming a stable cloud of debris upon which life is, against most odds, still possible.

So, I drew this:

Problem is, I feel like it's missing something and can't figure out what. Was trying to go for the classic "space shading", which tends to be pretty binary, but I feel like in doing so I've made the debris field a bit sparse for what's supposed to be two planets-worth of matter despite not being able to fit much more in with any success.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Pixel Art / Character Design
« on: March 07, 2016, 01:04:26 am »
So, I'm trying to design a simplistic roboty-looking guy for a game.

He's supposed to be kind of naive and fearful, this whole "life" thing being rather new to him. He is designed to mesh with society though, being an artificial intelligence, so I'm trying for a more human leaning on his design than not.
Thoughts?
