If you've been refreshing your feed for months waiting for the Trails through Daybreak 2 release date, you can finally take a breath. It's coming. Soon.
NIS America has officially confirmed that The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II (originally known as Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN- in Japan) is launching in the West on February 14, 2025.
Yeah, Valentine's Day.
Forget the chocolate and roses. Most of us are going back to the Calvard Republic to see what’s going on with Van Arkride and the rest of the Spriggans. Honestly, it’s a bit of a relief to have a concrete date after years of "coming soon" placeholders and the usual localization lag that Trails fans have basically turned into a lifestyle.
What platforms is it on?
When the clock strikes midnight on February 14, you’ve got plenty of ways to play. NISA isn't leaving anyone out this time around.
The game is hitting:
- PlayStation 5
- PlayStation 4
- Nintendo Switch
- PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG)
The PC port is being handled by the wizards at PH3 GmbH. If you aren't familiar with them, they’re the ones who fixed the Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure ports. Basically, expect high-end optimization, ultrawide support, and all those tiny quality-of-life toggles that make the PC versions of these games the definitive way to play for many.
Why the Trails through Daybreak 2 release date matters right now
We’re in a weird spot in 2026. Looking back, the gap between the Japanese release and the English version is finally shrinking. Daybreak 2 originally dropped in Japan way back in September 2022. That's a huge gap.
But here is the thing: the Western release is the gateway to the series finale. With Trails Beyond the Horizon (Kai no Kiseki) having recently launched in Japan and its Western version already on the radar for early 2026, catching up on Daybreak 2 is mandatory. You literally cannot skip this one.
The story picks up right after the first Daybreak. The threat of the mafia organization Almata is gone, but peace in Calvard lasts about five minutes before a "crimson beast" starts a murder spree. It’s darker than the Erebonia arc. It’s grittier.
The Gameplay Shifts
If you played the first one, you know the combat changed. It’s that hybrid system where you can swap between real-time action and turn-based command battles on the fly.
Daybreak 2 tweaks this. They've added:
- Cross Charge: A mechanic where you can swap characters during field combat to deal massive damage.
- EX Chains: These trigger when you stun an enemy in command mode and have allies nearby.
It makes the "Field Battle" part of the game feel like a real action-RPG rather than just a way to get a head start on a turn-based encounter.
Is there a demo?
Actually, yes. There are usually two.

NISA followed the Japanese release pattern by offering a Story Demo and a Battle Demo. The best part? Your progress from the Story Demo carries over to the full game. You can basically play through the Prologue and Part 1, save your game, and then pick up exactly where you left off on release day.
The "Daybreak 2" Special Editions
If you’re a collector, the Limited Edition is the usual NISA flex. It comes with a hardcover art book, a "Crimson Sin" soundtrack, a steelbook, and a big map of the Republic of Calvard. Most of these sell out during the pre-order phase, but digital players get the "Digital Deluxe" version which usually bundles the DLC costumes (like Van's Mishy suit) and some early-game items.
Bridging the Gap to 2026
By the time you finish this, we'll be looking toward the next big release. The series is moving fast now. Falcom CEO Toshihiro Kondo has been vocal about wanting to get the West caught up so they can do global releases. We aren't there yet, but Daybreak 2 launching in early 2025 was the biggest step toward that goal.
