You’re standing in Zora’s Domain. It’s raining—standard for the Lanayru region before you deal with Vah Ruta—and there is this little Zora girl, Laruta, singing a cryptic tune by Mipha’s statue. If you’re like me, you probably talked to her once, thought "That’s a nice bit of world-building," and kept moving. But The Ceremonial Song is actually one of the most frustratingly specific shrine quests in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Most players get stuck here. Honestly, the game is a bit of a jerk about the instructions.
The lyrics are simple enough: "A gift from the sky: a scale of light, Splits the feet of a Veiled Falls sight, Your trial awaits... It’s glowing bright."
Sounds cool. Very poetic. But unless you know exactly what "splitting the feet" means in the context of BotW’s physics engine, you’re going to spend a lot of time breaking weapons and drowning in the Veiled Falls.
Where is the Ceremonial Trident anyway?
Before you can even attempt the stunt, you need the right tool. You might think you need the Lightscale Trident (the one you get for saving the Divine Beast). While that actually works, nobody wants to risk breaking a legendary weapon on a trial. That’s where the Ceremonial Trident comes in.

It’s basically a counterfeit. A fake. Trello, the guy in charge of the Champion Festival, basically admitted he dropped the thing off the bridge. You can find him pacing around the northwest bridge in Zora's Domain, looking stressed.
Finding the spear in the muck
Go to that northwest bridge. Jump off. No, really.
The trident is sitting at the bottom of the water on the east side of the bridge. You won't see it just by swimming around. You’ve got to use Magnesis. I recommend using Cryonis to build a little ice pillar path out into the water so you have a platform to stand on. Once you're close enough, the trident will glow pink under the Magnesis lens. Pull it up, and you’re ready to go.
The "Splitting the Feet" Problem
The Veiled Falls are just west of Zora’s Domain. If you look at the base of the falls, there is a circular pedestal submerged in the water. This is the "feet" the song is talking about.

Here is the part where everyone fails.
You can't just throw the spear at it. You can't just stand on it and poke it with the Trident. You have to perform a downward thrust attack from a significant height.
How to nail the landing
- Swim up the waterfall: Equip your Zora Armor. Swim all the way to the top of Veiled Falls.
- The Glide: At the top, launch yourself out and pull out your paraglider.
- The Attack: This is the specific part. While you are gliding—and only while gliding—press the attack button (Y). Link will pull the trident back and dive straight down into the pedestal.
If you just jump and hit attack without the glider, Link does a standard jump-stab. That usually isn't enough to trigger the shrine. You need the momentum of the diving attack.
Pro Tip: If you do this from too high up, the fall damage might actually kill Link. He'll hit the pedestal, the shrine will appear, and then Link will just... ragdoll into the water. If you have Mipha’s Grace or a few fairies, it’s not a big deal. If you don't, try to start your attack when you're about halfway down the falls.

Common Mistakes That Break the Quest
I’ve seen people try to drop the trident from their inventory. Others try to use a regular Zora Spear. It won't work. The game specifically checks for either the Ceremonial Trident or the Lightscale Trident.
Also, the pedestal is finicky. You have to land pretty much dead-center. If you’re slightly off to the side, Link will just splash into the water, and you'll have to swim back up for another go. It’s annoying. It’s tedious. But once that pedestal turns from orange to blue and the Dagah Keek Shrine rises out of the ground, the relief is real.
Is the Reward Even Worth It?
The Dagah Keek Shrine is a "Rauru’s Blessing" type deal. This means once you get inside, there are no puzzles. The "puzzle" was getting the door open in the first place. You’ll find a chest with a Silver Rupee (100 rupees) and your Spirit Orb.
Honestly, the real reward is just clearing it off your quest log.
If you accidentally break your Ceremonial Trident later on, don't panic. You can take a Zora Spear and five pieces of flint to Dento (the blacksmith in Zora’s Domain) and he’ll craft you a new one. But seriously, just use the fake one for the quest and save your Lightscale Trident for actual combat.
Actionable Steps for Success
- Talk to Laruta by the Mipha statue to trigger the quest.
- Locate Trello on the bridge to the northwest to learn about the lost trident.
- Use Magnesis and Cryonis under that bridge to fish the Ceremonial Trident out of the water.
- Warp to Zora's Domain and head west to Veiled Falls.
- Swim up the falls with Zora Armor, paraglide over the pedestal, and hit Y mid-glide to slam down.
- Keep a Fairy in your pocket just in case the fall damage is too much for your current health.
