The Apple of Her Eye: Finding Alma's Glasses and What You Actually Get

The Apple of Her Eye: Finding Alma's Glasses and What You Actually Get

Monster Hunter Wilds isn't just about taking down mountain-sized beasts with an oversized slab of iron. Sometimes, it’s about the smaller things. Like eyewear. If you’ve been hanging around the Scarlet Forest lately, you’ve probably noticed Alma looking a bit... well, less focused than usual.

Basically, she lost her glasses.

The Apple of Her Eye is a side quest that popped up with Title Update 1 (around early April 2025 for those keeping track). It’s not a mandatory hunt. You won’t get a new armor set from a flagship monster for doing it. But honestly, it’s one of those charming distractions that gives the world of Wilds a bit more soul. Plus, the rewards are actually pretty great for fashion hunters and anyone who wants to customize their camp vibes.

You can't just stumble into this. First off, make sure your game is updated. You need to have cleared a decent chunk of the story—specifically, most players see it pop up after Mission 3-5 "Monster Hunter" or after finishing Alma's other side quest, "What We Protect."

Once you're eligible, talk to Alma at any base camp. She’ll mention she lost her "special" red glasses somewhere in the Scarlet Forest.

Don't expect a simple "go here, press X" marker right away. The game wants you to do a little detective work with the local Wudwuds.

Tracking Down the Wudwud Hideout

Your first stop is the Wudwud Hideout. If you haven't found it yet, it's tucked away in the Scarlet Forest. Talk to a Wudwud named Thunk near the entrance. He's the gatekeeper for this whole mess.

He'll point you toward a river.

  1. Head downriver (check Area 2 on your map).
  2. Look for a Wudwud named Scampshroom.
  3. This little guy loves red things and is usually hanging out near a Scarlet Amber node.

The catch? Scampshroom is fast. He’ll bolt as soon as you get close, leading you on a bit of a chase. Once that cutscene plays, you’re sent back to Thunk. This is where most people get stuck. Thunk tells you to come back during a "party."

The Plenty and the Night

This is the specific mechanic that trips everyone up. The Wudwud festival only happens under two specific conditions:

  • Environment: Plenty
  • Time: Night

If the weather is currently "Fallow" or it’s high noon, you’re just going to see an empty clearing. Go to your tent or a BBQ spit and use the "Rest" feature. Force the time to Night and the season to Plenty.

Once the vibes are right, head to the rooftop of the Wudwud Hideout. You’ll see a bunch of them dancing around a bonfire. It’s actually kind of adorable. You need to talk to four different Wudwuds with exclamation marks over their heads. They’ll spill the beans about a Wudwud named Ayejack who has the glasses.

Finding Ayejack (He's Hiding in Plain Sight)

After the party, the quest marker usually vanishes. It’s annoying.

Go back down into the main interior of the hideout—the area where Plumpeach usually hangs out. Don't look on the floor. Look up. Ayejack is sleeping in a leafy cocoon/hammock hanging from the ceiling.

He won't just give the glasses back for free. The little guy has expensive taste. He wants Eastern Honey.

Pro Tip: If you don't have Eastern Honey, you can sometimes get it as a reward from the quest "A Leviathan's Temper" (the Tempered Lala Barina hunt) or trade for it with Ren using the item intermediary service. You can also occasionally snag it by netting a Giant Vigorwasp.

Hand over the honey, and the glasses are yours.

Are the Rewards Worth It?

For a quest about a pair of spectacles, the loot is surprisingly decent. Once you turn the glasses in to Alma, you unlock:

  • Alma Customization: You can now change her eyewear in the "Change Appearance" menu at any tent.
  • Square Glasses Recipe: Craftable at Gemma’s forge.
  • Strategist Spectacles Recipe: Another eyewear option for your hunter.
  • Silver Relic Ticket: Always useful for high-end melding.
  • 300 Guild Points.

The Strategist Spectacles are the real winner here for most people. They have a very sleek, scholarly look that fits well with some of the more refined armor sets in the game.

Summary of Actionable Steps

If you're looking to knock this out quickly, here is exactly what you should do:

  • Check your quest log: Ensure "What We Protect" is finished.
  • Visit the Scarlet Forest: Talk to Thunk, then find Scampshroom by the river in Area 2.
  • Manipulate the clock: Rest until it is Nighttime during the Plenty season.
  • Gather intel: Talk to the four Wudwuds at the rooftop bonfire.
  • Trade with Ayejack: Find him hanging from the ceiling in the lower hideout and give him Eastern Honey.
  • Forge your loot: Visit Gemma to see the new crafting recipes under the "Head" armor tab.

This side quest doesn't take long if you know the weather requirements, and honestly, seeing Alma in the new red frames is a nice change of pace after a hundred hours of staring at the same outfit. Just make sure you have that honey ready before you head out, or you'll be making an extra trip back to base.
