Free stuff. Everyone loves it, but in hero shooters, "free" usually means grinding until your eyes bleed or settling for a beige recolor of a default outfit. NetEase is taking a weirdly specific—and honestly pretty cool—route with Marvel Rivals college skins. Except, if we're being technically accurate, they aren't exactly "skins" you own forever. They're part of the College Perks program.
It’s basically a student discount for your digital wardrobe.
If you’ve been scouring the in-game shop looking for a "University" category, you won't find it. This isn't a set of varsity jackets for the Avengers. Instead, it’s a verification system that unlocks a rotating closet of high-tier, legendary, and cinematic costumes that usually cost a pretty penny (or a lot of Units). You get to use them for free. The catch? You have to actually be a student.
The Marvel Rivals College Perks system: What is it?
Basically, NetEase launched this program to hook the university crowd. It’s a recurring perk that refreshes every season. For Season 6, which just kicked off on January 16, 2026, the program refreshed again.
You link your .edu or university-verified email, and the game hands you 10 trial costumes and 10 MVP animations. These aren't just basic skins. We’re talking about the heavy hitters. In previous seasons, this included the No Way Home Spider-Man suit and the Multiverse of Madness Scarlet Witch look.

One thing people get wrong: these are trial skins.
You don't keep them once the season ends or if the rotation swaps. It’s a rental service with zero rent. If you stop being a student or the perk period ends, the skins go back into the vault. But as long as you're verified, you’ve got a rotating gallery of some of the best cosmetics in the game without spending a single Latice.
Which characters are getting the hookup?
The list changes. That’s the most important part to remember. NetEase rotates the selection to keep things fresh. Based on the most recent updates for the early 2026 window, the College Perks selection has been leaning heavily into cinematic and "Epic" tier variants.
Historically, the 10-skin roster has featured:

- Spider-Man: No Way Home (Legendary)
- Scarlet Witch: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
- Thor: Lord of Asgard
- Jeff the Land Shark: Incognito Dolphin
- Invisible Woman: Malice
- Winter Soldier: Blood Soldier
- Captain America: Avengers: Infinity War
For the current season, the devs have swapped in trial versions for some of the newer faces, often including Luna Snow or Psylocke variants. The idea is to let you "test drive" the premium experience. It's smart. You look cool in the MVP screen, your friends get jealous, and maybe you eventually buy the skin when the trial ends. Or you just enjoy the free ride while it lasts.
How to actually unlock the skins (The Verification Loop)
You can't just click a button and hope for the best. There’s a process. It’s not hard, but it’s tucked away in the menus where most people don't look.
- Open the game and hit the Gear Icon (Settings).
- Look for the College Perks tab. If it’s not there, check the Community drop-down menu—NetEase likes to move it around during UI updates.
- Enter your student email address. It has to be a legitimate university domain.
- Check your school email for a verification code.
- Plug that code back into the game.
Once you’re green-lit, the skins should just show up in your Hero Gallery with a little "Perk" or "Trial" icon on them. If they don't appear immediately, try restarting the client. The server sometimes needs a second to realize you’re actually a student and not just three raccoons in a lab coat.
Why some people can't see the Perks
"I put my email in and nothing happened." Yeah, I've seen this a dozen times on Reddit. There are two main reasons. First, your university might not be on the "approved" list yet. NetEase uses a third-party verification service, and while it covers most major global universities, some smaller community colleges or international schools occasionally fall through the cracks.

Second, the program is seasonal. If you verified back in Season 3, you might need to re-verify or at least "refresh" the link for Season 6.
Also, keep in mind that Marvel Rivals college skins are a separate beast from the Hero Proficiency rewards. You can't "grind" for these perks. You either have the email or you don't. If you're not a student, you're stuck with the standard freebies: the units you earn from achievements, the seasonal events like "Whac-A-Jeff," or the permanent unlocks from the Battle Pass.
Is it worth the hassle?
Honestly? Yes.
The value of 10 legendary/epic skins plus 10 MVP animations is roughly equivalent to $150–$200 if you were to buy them outright in the shop. Even if they are just trials, having a high-end Thor or Venom skin for three months for free is a win.
Plus, it lets you save your Chrono Tokens and Units for the skins you actually want to own permanently. Since Marvel Rivals Battle Passes don't expire (you can keep working on them forever once purchased), using the college trials is a great way to stay stylish while you slowly grind out your permanent collection.
Your Next Steps
If you're currently enrolled, go to the Settings menu right now and link that email. The Season 6 rotation is live, and it includes some of the best MVP animations we've seen so far. If your school isn't showing up, submit a ticket through the NetEase "Customer Support" tab in-game—they've been surprisingly fast at adding new domains to the whitelist this year.
