You’re freezing your butt off in the Gerudo Highlands. Specifically, you're near Laparoh Mesa, looking at a giant, stubborn block of ice that happens to be hiding the Kuh Takkar Shrine.
Most players overthink the entrance. They stand there wastefully spamming fire arrows or burning through expensive wood. Honestly? Just strap a Flameblade to your back and stand next to it. Or light one single campfire. It’s a waiting game, but it works.
Once you’re inside the "Melting Ice Hazard" trial, things get annoying. The monk basically tells you: "Carry this ice block to the end without it turning into a puddle." Simple, right? Not really.

Getting Through the Flames Without Losing Your Mind
The first part is easy. You grab the ice and zigzag through some vertical flame pillars. Don’t rush. If you clip a flame, your ice block shrinks. It’s not game over if it shrinks, but it makes the later steps way harder to manage.
Then you hit the rotating flames. You’ve got two choices here. You can time your run like a sane person, or you can just throw the ice block. Seriously. If you toss it through the gap, it slides across the floor and takes almost zero damage.
The Metal Block Strategy
Soon, you’ll hit a wall of horizontal flames. You can’t walk through these while holding the ice; it’ll vanish instantly.
- Drop the ice in a safe spot.
- Run through the flames yourself (you're fine, mostly).
- Look in the lava pit. There's a big metal cube.
- Use Magnesis to yank that cube out.
Basically, that metal cube is your best friend. You use it as a shield to block the horizontal jets. Position it, grab your ice, walk a bit, reposition the cube, and repeat. You’ll also need to drop the cube into the lava to create a bridge for yourself while carrying the ice.
The Frostblade Chest You Probably Missed
There is a chest in here. Most people ignore it because they’re so stressed about the melting ice.
Look to the left of the main ramp near the end. You'll see more flames guarding a small alcove. Use your metal cube to block those vertical jets. You can actually paraglide onto the top of the metal cube and hop over to the chest. Inside is a Frostblade. It’s a solid weapon, especially in the desert heat, so it’s worth the thirty-second detour.
The Final Vertical Flame Wall
The last obstacle is the worst. Flames are shooting straight down from the ceiling.

I’ve seen people try to stasis the ice and hit it through. That’s cool, I guess, but it’s risky. The most reliable way is the "Umbrella Method."
First, chuck your ice block through the flames. It’ll melt a little, but as long as a tiny sliver of ice makes it to the other side, the door to the monk will open. Once the ice is safely across, use Magnesis to hold the metal cube directly over Link’s head. Walk through like you’re carrying a heavy umbrella in a firestorm.
Why Size Doesn't Actually Matter
Here’s a secret: The monk doesn’t care if you bring him a massive boulder of ice or a single ice cube the size of a grape. As long as Link is holding "ice" when he reaches that final platform, the gate opens.

If you're really struggling, some players swear by wearing the Flamebreaker Armor (upgraded twice for the Fireproof set bonus). It doesn't stop the ice from melting, but it stops Link from flinching, which makes the platforming way less of a headache.
