Kerchief Fish in Infinity Nikki: What Most People Get Wrong

Kerchief Fish in Infinity Nikki: What Most People Get Wrong

Honestly, if you've spent more than five minutes running around the Stonewoods in Infinity Nikki, you've probably realized that "looking pretty" is only about half the battle. The other half? Chasing down slippery materials for your next big outfit.

The Kerchief Fish is one of those early-game hurdles that trips people up. It's not that it’s impossibly rare—it’s just that the game sort of drops you into the "For Flamecrest Festival" quest and expects you to know exactly where these blue-rarity fish are hiding. If you’re stuck staring at a river in Stoneville wondering why you’re only pulling up junk, you aren't alone.

Where to Actually Find Kerchief Fish

Most players think they can just cast a line anywhere and hope for the best. That's a waste of time.

Basically, you need to be looking in two specific zones: Stoneville and the Abandoned District. In Stoneville, the hotspots are all along the river that cuts right through the town. If you head west of the main village area, near the Gliding Training Stonetree, you’ll find some of the most consistent spawns.

The Abandoned District is a bit more of a hike, but it’s actually a goldmine for farming. The cove at the Stellar Fishing Ground has several spots clustered together. One thing to keep in mind: most spots only give you one Kerchief Fish per "reset." Since resources in Miraland reset at the end of each day, you’ve gotta make it a habit to hit these spots if you’re planning on crafting a bunch of gear at once.

A Quick Trick for the Lazy

If you’ve got Thread of Purity burning a hole in your pocket and you absolutely hate the fishing minigame, there is a shortcut. Go to the Abandoned District and look for a vendor named Patchwork Pete. He runs the "Fishful Stall" right at the end of a dock in the center of the cove.

He sells Kerchief Fish for 2 Thread of Purity each.

It’s not the most "efficient" way to play if you're trying to save currency, but when you just need that one last fish to finish a sketch and the sun is going down, Pete is a lifesaver.

Why the Kerchief Fish Matters for Your Progress

You might be wondering why you’re even bothering with a medium-sized fish described as having "thick, soft fins." In the lore of Infinity Nikki, elders use these fins to sew warm clothing. In gameplay terms, this means the fish is a mandatory crafting material.

  • Quest Progression: You literally cannot finish the "For Flamecrest Festival" quest without catching at least 1kg of these things.
  • Precise Tracking: Here is the part most people miss. Once you have caught a total of 6kg of Kerchief Fish, you unlock the "Precise Tracking" feature in your collection menu.
  • Crafting: Several early-to-mid-game sketches require them as a primary material.

The tracking thing is huge. Before you hit that 6kg mark, you're basically guessing. After that, the map will point you directly to them. It’s worth the initial grind just to never have to aimlessly wander the riverbanks again.

Mastering the Catch (Without Losing Your Mind)

Catching a Kerchief Fish is a bit different than the basic Ruffins you see everywhere. They have a bit more fight in them.

Once you cast your line using a fishing-capable outfit, you have to watch the stamina wheel. When the fish starts to struggle, move your stick (or mouse) in the opposite direction. If you just hold it still, the line snaps.

When that stamina wheel finally hits zero, you have to mash the reel-in button fast. I've seen people lose these fish because they got distracted by the (admittedly beautiful) UE5 scenery and didn't tap fast enough. If the progress bar doesn't fill up before the fish recovers, you're back to square one.

Spotting the Difference

You can usually tell if you've hooked a Kerchief Fish by how the rod reacts. A "strong" bite—where the stamina wheel drains slowly but recovers very quickly—usually indicates a higher-rarity fish. If the stamina wheel drains in two seconds, it's probably just a common Ruffin. Some players use a "reroll" method where they cancel the catch if the bite feels too weak, saving time and focus for the fish they actually need.

Practical Steps for Efficient Farming

If you want to get this over with quickly, follow this loop:

  1. Teleport to Stoneville and hit the five river spots near the Stonetree.
  2. Move to the Forgotten Village Dwelling (southwest side) for three more spots.
  3. Finish at the Stellar Fishing Ground in the Abandoned District.
  4. If you're still short, visit Patchwork Pete at his dock and buy the remaining fish.

Remember that you need the Fishing Ability Outfit equipped. It sounds obvious, but I've spent way too long standing by the water wondering why the prompt wouldn't appear, only to realize I was still in a gliding suit.

Once you have your 6kg, immediately go into your Collections menu and toggle the tracker. This turns the Kerchief Fish from a frustrating mystery into just another item on your checklist. Focus on the Stoneville river first—it's the safest bet for beginners and puts you right where you need to be for the early story beats.
