[WIP] Femme cast design.

Casts are the android race from the Phantasy Star universe.
Always liked their look so I decided to sprite a big one for practice.. and I think I'm stuck.


The one on the far left is where I started and the one on the right is where I'm now, tried dither and some other styles for practice but the final one is what I'm gonna go with.. most likely.

so, any suggestions/fixes on the torso's shape/shading?  ;D
don't know what to do with the shading around the hip area..

May I suggest that rather than focus on the rendering of it you get the full sketch complete first?

It looks quite nice despite that though... but really, you may find that you spend a great deal of time working it up only to find you can't make the rest 'fit'...

Sketch the rest first, get the pose right, get the proportions right, get that bang on, and then work n the rendereing.

But ah had teh design in mah head! :crazy:

Ok, fixed that.


Haven't worked on big sprites much so the proportions are kinda hard.
It's around 6 and a half heads tall..

Looking pretty neat.

- What kind of game would the sprite be for? You've drawn the character in perspective, which is unusual for a game sprite. I suggest a more side-on view.
- Could use more contrast, and some colour.
- Head feels a little big.
- Far shoulder should be more visible, I think.
- Feet should be longer
- How does the torso twist or bend?

she doesnt appear to have a neck, but its a bit hard to tell since the head is just a blob right now.

Is she supposed to lean forwards with her head and neck? if not, move it backwards. Also a neck would be nice. Maybe? haha.
