Tambukaka Village [Green Stones with Waterfall]

on: January 30, 2010, 09:19:39 pm
This is a piece I just finished for my RPG. It's the beginners town, I'm going to drop every shop and what not inside the cave, palette isn't all mine the shading and what not is.

The switch from frontal visible canopy to flat backdrop canopy is sudden and jarring. There should be a halfway. Also, add some variation in the forward canopy; as of right now it looks like you copied and pasted a whole bunch of the same circle of canopy across the entire top of the rock. Make varied circles of canopy, and then plaster them across to your heart's desire.

The waterfall should splash more on the big rock in it's way, or at least flow around it in some fashion. Right now the rock is just kind there, it looks as is if the water is flowing straight through it.

Beyond that, good work!

If those really are green stones I would suggest making them a much cooler green and focusing on making them look more like stones- play with the sharp edges of rocks more. Right now it looks like they could almost be tree tops. Also there seems to be 3 separate styles going on in the waterfall, greenstones?, and the cave.

Or... I guess those are supposed to be tree tops? If so then you should make them look more like leaves.

The trees need to be bigger I think. As someone has already said... the rocks in the waterfall are not really realistic. They just are - have them effect the water more.

Show more depth. The caves just seem to be there.

The canopy looks a bit better now.

You fixed the rock a bit... but only the bottom. Like I said, splash effects on the top are your friend here.

Could I get some assistance with the splash effect on the rock? It's my first time doing one such as this going downward and all...  :-[

I'm thinking it would look much better if you added a bit of vegetation to the cliff itself. Right now, it's lookin' a bit bland.
