Ramza Beoulve

on: December 26, 2009, 12:11:58 am
Hello Pixelation. It's my first time here.  ;D

Now for a quick intro, it's been only recently that I've gotten the urge to get better at pixels in general, after spending months spriting the same old styles I used to make.. I've been mostly a spriter all these years, but im looking to get off my confort zone and try some bigger pixelart for once, as it might help me in many ways other than being a favorite hobby.

To start off, I went and re-made Ramza from FFT, but in a more realistic style, unlike in the FFT art.
A very early WIP I got here.

Everything below the neck is a wip yet, as im still working out the proportions
Im also not satisfied with the current pallete I have, but it may just be me.

The body language suggest Ramza is really timid and very scared/worried. Might want to make or more confident. Or emphasize that scared/worried-ness.
Are you aiming for realism or something just shy of realism?

I thought of a basic stand, but now that you mention it.. I might make him crouch a bit, because the sword is supposed to go in his right hand. (our left)

My goal is to have him have some kind of battle wary pose, and at the same time idle, as to not make him look too active.

I put the sword there to show it's intended location, and started to color.
Open to all suggestions, btw. C&C would be much apreciated.

Really liking this so far, but the sword doesn't seem to line up with the hand.

I think it might just be a relaxed grip (since the tip is resting on the ground, all he has to do is let the handle lay across the fingers to hold it up).

I'm loving this style

I think a wider stance would make for a more interesting pose. Or straightening the leg on our left in some way. At the moment it looks a bit like his knees are buckling.

Right now his knees are bearing most of his weight, which is centered in his ass.  Better as suggested to straighten at least one leg beneath him if not spread both such that his stance is more grounded+confident.

baggier sleeves I think are a must, it's a hallmark of the costumes.
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

I think I might have to extend the pallete by 2 colors though.

I'm really impressed by your color choices. The purple armor looks great.
