"Wot ya thinkin?" "Pub?"

on: December 20, 2009, 04:45:34 pm
Was rewatching Hot Fuzz again, and felt like doing up a couple pixel versions of the characters. I've got half a mind to do up proper platformer sprites for Angel and Butterman, as well as the rest of the Force (sorry, Service), and the council.

They could use some highlights and shadows. Right now they are all in the dark.
Try to break the simmetry a little bit more. Specially in the Nicholas spirte with all the guns.

Danny could be a little bit fatter, and a little bit shorter.

Yeah, hadn't realised how lacking in contrast they were til you mentioned. The two are actually almost the same height in real life (I've just freezeframed it at the bit where they're walking, and Danny's asking about whether he's fired two guns, etc). I /should/ make him fatter, though. Wasn't sure how far to push it initially. :p I'll see what else I can do about the symmetry (Angel's currently got his various holsters in place, but I'll differentiate the shotguns as per the movie), though for the next bit, I'm more than likely gonna try and do side-view platformish-style sprites of them, so the symmetry won't be such an issue.

Cheers for the comments, I'll get some fixes done in the morning.

Awesome! I love this movie.

Contrast is definitely biggest issue atm.

The legs feel a bit band-y. The even intervals of horizontal shift in the pixel columns leads to it, I think. Try unevening it.

It depends to what extent you want to characterise them, I think. There's all kinds of ways you could exaggerate the proportions to emphasise aspects of each of the characters. But I don't think he necessarily needs to be fatter, I just think his shoulders need to be widened to imply more "size" to him.
