[WIP] Character Half body

on: December 10, 2009, 12:32:31 pm

Am undecided on a colour scheme though I'm sure I want green eyes. Am currently leaning to a medium/dark purple for the hair.

Done on Pchat(Meaning no line tools, so this is all freehand) with some help from a friend and cleaned up on ms paint by none other than me, could i get both cnc on the technical errors in the lineart and colour scheme suggestions please, any suggestions on wardrobe would also be appreciated.

N.B. She is meant to be very thin, so unless it's a proportional issue I'd like her to stay that way.

She's also a little slutty, hence the costume :)

TIA
Cheers

There's anatomy problems.

the biggest is the arm fix, but then it becomes apparent the whole body is elongated and stylized an ways that might confuse the viewer.

But that's not even even ,

Sorry for mouse drawing, no time. Torso, tummy, chest, everything needs reassessment.

I suggest you do not work such portraits in halves, draw the whole body, leave the cropping for the end render.

EDIT: actually I'm pretty off too. This is useful to you:

Looks like Helm beat me to it :)

She doesn't really look that feminine, partly from the anatomy problems, and also partly because the face is elongated. The nose should be shorter, the eyes should be lower and the jawline should be rounder.

I did a paintover before Helm stole my thunder:

Oh ya, also the pose is a bit non-feminine. Women usually don't hunch over like that.

...

Hahaha

The non-feminine hunching is useful - contrast with looks and pose can give good results. Just saying. Turning her pose into the same thing as that fashionable underwear lady would .. err. Well yeah that would ruin the picture.

Fixed some issues, though some of the proportion/anatomy fixes detracted from the over-all aesthetics, and I left them out, bear with me if some things are still a little off, added flat colours, though still open to suggestions there.

What type of shading will you be using?

Hard-edge cel shading or realism? Or a combination?

I was thinking cel with antialiasing to smooth the lines maybe, not certain though.

I'm no expert, but the proportions still look really wonky too me. Here's a sloppy edit:

(Just my two cents. Could be even worse for all I know....)

Probably just because I'm used to looking at taller versions, but she seems dwarfed now, I think the head is too large compared to the body on that edit.
I was kinda going for an extremely thin look with some breast and hip curve.
I do also kinda want to keep to the elongated aesthetic if it's possible without making her look freakishly un-human.

N.B. Realised that the top of the bow on the left needs fixing because it curves oddly ATM, so will fix asap.

I think what bugs me most at the moment is her small hips make her waist look masculine, and slope her body awkwardly...though it's kinda hard to tell sicne it's cut off at the waist too @_@;

Ouu and out of curiousity, which pchat do you frequent? :D
