Hello thar

on: December 05, 2009, 02:00:49 pm
Hi, I recently registered to pixelation but I've been here as a guest for a while. (Great criticism, which I could apply to my pixel art.) But I thought I'd register now, I could use some direct CnC. I'm not that good at pixel art, but not bad either. (At least I hope not.) I like all kinds of pixel art, but favor scenes. Fool's work is a perfect example. I like vibrant colors, and fluency in animations. (Even though I can't always make things very fluent.)

Anyway, I hope to be an active member here at pixelation.

BTW; I thought I'd post an introduction here because I really couldn't see anywhere else too.

CnC.

The guy with the top hat is an older character, but I still like his animations, so I'm going to edit them to be the new character.

Oh, one more thing, this is not my style.  :P It's 1up's Delicious Wonderbros style.

Yes, you should mention that this is 1up's Delicious Wonderbros style. You did a decent job at following it!

However, the problem rests in the hair; it's double pixel outline doesn't look right, and it could use AA in various places. I'll try to get an edit up later, it's early here.

Otherwise, looking nice! I'll show 1up and see what he thinks! :)

his balance on the kick seems somewhat impossible

@Dex, thanks, I'll try to edit it soon. Yeah, I just adore the style. If you could contact 1up, it would be great, because I tried, there was no response.   ::)

@Tuna, I don't see how.... Do you mind going into further detail?

I think what Tuna means is the movement looks too slow in the kick and he still remains very vertical after a kick ^^..
There is no power behind the kick and it doesn't seem to effect the balance in the rest of his body at all..

I also notice his head warps wider a couple of pixels before the kick, which looks a bit strange º__º);

I think to convey power behind his kick, make him bend his legs and move his body into more of a crouch. I think he should use his arms as balance a bit more too. I hope this makes sense.. ;;

yeah, he seems to remain very leaned back and casual while kicking. you would have to lean forward somewhat to equalize the balance.

Weird, when I tried doing a kick like that I didn't really have to..

Ok I'll try.  :)

So make him crouch more, lean forward a bit more, and upon planting the kicking foot on the ground make him move back a bit?

Is that what you mean?

The kick you have him doing is physically impossible. That's a fact which doesn't need discussion I assume.

Fixing the balance issue is not a matter of crouching, leaning, etc., you just need to make sure that the right leg is actually supporting weight, instead of the body being held up by thin air ;)

actually gil's avi is pretty much a perfect example of a well balanced but exaggerated kick

Look at that frame and try standing in that pose without falling. The kick has almost no momentum, so you can't say the swing is making him stand like that. So, for the kick to work, you must move the body over the leg while he is kicking. You see on my avatar for example (which is old as hell and needs replacement), that the body compensates for the leg swinging away by leaning back, placing the support leg under the point of gravity.

A quick try at an edit. The hat edit sucks, but was just to give you an idea of how force pushes things around. I think I might not have taken it far enough though, it still looks a bit shaky balance wise.
