My new avatar

on: November 01, 2009, 08:47:16 pm
Here's a WIP of my avatar to be, it's a self-portrait. I've slowed down on progress (just messing with a few pixels for the past few days, started this wednesday and have only begun hair today), as I'd like to have your opinion, support and comments on my work for now. I'm aware of banding and of pixel clumps, and I've tried to get rid of them (with difficulty). As you can see I've desaturated my palette so the colours blend better. The reference is here.

Thank you for your time!

The eyes looks awfully dark, maybe just a bit lighter there?
Photocopier: the fact that arne can also code so well
Photocopier: is horrificly unfair

Coming along pretty well. Take some time to recheck your drawing and value measurements. Near eye (mainly underneath it) needs to be a little lighter, far cheek needs to be darker. Chin needs to be bigger and angle of jawline slightly steeper. Check the shape of the specular on the nose, too.

Maybe change the eyes so they're looking at the viewer?

Here's a lot of nitpicks, but you're doing very good, I think.

No, I'm not going to lighten the eyes, I want to keep them dark like that, they're not supposed to stick out that much, but I'll animate them!
I've done an update (far right) according to what Eyecraft and Helm have picked up on.
Eyecraft: I made an animation through GM for the avatar in which he does look at the viewer but very briefly, and I couldn't convert it with iaza. I'll see if I can get a version made with UnFREEz up. Thank you for keeping me on track!
Helm: Thank you for the edit, I see you've made quite a few changes (aswell as illustrating what Eyecraft said). I've only realised now that some of my colours were a little off in retrospect so I'm fixing that.
Thanks for keeping me interested and going!

new version is much much better on the likeness.

I tried not to mess with your palette cuz I liked it but a few more warms couldn't hurt, could they?

Thank you, I'll stop tweaking the face and work on the hair now.
I'll see if I can fit in more warms afterwards :p
