Minefield fix for Pixelation?

on: October 01, 2009, 11:34:55 pm
Has there been an effort made in fixing arbitrary image smoothing in Pixelation?

Recent Pixeljoint fix for smoothing   Pixeljoint now displays it's images with no smoothing if you use Minefield, which works great.

I'm using current browsers and the smoothing here is discouraging my usage of the site. With the smoothing, it really kills inspecting everyone's pixels. Of course, there are other ways to zoom correctly using other tools, etc, but the fact remains that Pixelation's zooming feature is no longer compliant with current browsers, unless browser devs finally give us interpolation options.

Why can't Pixelation get fixed?

There must be differences in the zooming scripts used on PJ and here. That should be a clue to solution. If there's anything I can do to help, anyone runnin' this place should let me know. No, I'm not a coder, but I still may able to help, just not sure how.

It's the zoom script, PJ just uses a Minefield only CSS fix. I'm sure Pixelation will be fixed when Firefox 3.6 (aka minefield) is released (november?). Why would they support a browser that isn't even out yet?

Well, the CSS fix most probably won't look any different in November than it does now, so there wouldn't really be any difference other than supporting some minefield users now, and all firefox users later, with the same actions taken.

Yes, I know. But by way of that same reasoning, why does PJ support a browser that isn't out yet? Because that's the web for you; effort to keep websites compatible with the state of browsers is the norm, whatever the issue may be. And it often requires browser specific tricks, I know you know that. Think of all the horrible IE workarounds. At this point in time, to protect our pixel art viewing functions, there is now a need for browser specific CSS, etc. So we do it. This is the internet, and this is the never-ending browser battle, it's how it is. Pixelation should follow suit with PJ, why not? It's working.

And I second what Colonel Ketchup says.

I will talk to Adam about this stuff.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

Minefield is not a state of the art browser, it's just a beta firefox browser. But yeah, the CSS won't change, so Adam could already prepare for the release next month.
