[WIP] Cruise ship ... not quite iso

on: May 25, 2009, 11:30:50 pm
I'm drawing a cruise ship (in 8 directions) from an iso point of view, but it's not iso style.
For a reference, I'm simplifying the cruise ship that I was on recently.

My "master" requests that I make it look like metal.  haha

I request any help at all :P

It's my second attempt, and it's better than the first.
I will be updating the picture according to critique, so critique away.

Thanks!

Maybe this thread can help you. I asked a somewhat similar question - I tried to draw it all in perfect perspective and, in the end, gave up and went for a straight down one instead of the isometric angle.

Thanks!  I'll post an update in a couple days.

In the meantime, anyone know how to make this thing look like metal?

Add intense light (from the light source). In metallic Objects, you will want a spot where it is intense white. There will also be intense dark spots on a shiny, metallic object aswell. It is all to do with how the material absorbs or does not absorb the light.

This image proves my point in a way, but with the pixel art the shading will come out more intense I think.

Alright, thanks!

The rotating boat is hard to make, even with the circle grid, so I think I'm going to try drawing it by hand first.

Don't forget that the boat will reflect the water!

Alright.  Thanks for the advice concerning line art.  Here is the prototype.
Next I'll add the AA, details, and metallic sheen.

Anything else to be said here?

Oops.  I also realize that I put this cruise ship over the other one...
That's ok, I guess.  ;D

In the side views the railing has 1 more rail than in the other views.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

 :'( Nooooo!
lol.
Mybad.  I'll fix it in the next update.
Good eye!  :y: ;D

In any case, I finished the boat with details:

and tried "metallicizing" it a bit:

I'm not sure.  I'll ask my master what he thinks too.
