Bionicle Character

on: May 16, 2009, 11:23:45 pm
I'm mainly looking for help with the feet and head. If more reference images are needed I can help. I'm not satisfied with the yellow shading.

Example of character.

The shading of the yellow parts check out ok when zoomed in, all I could say is to push the values and maybe highlight some of the edges even further for a more dramatized effect.

I worked on the feet a tad more, but can't figure out how to make the head not pillow-shaded. Help?

I removed the lightest color of the yellow and I like it better. I also did a few other minor changes. The hands look like they are outlined in a bright color, and I'm not liking that. Any comments?

I think you need the highlight colour for the yellow parts, the newest version looks a little flat now. I would suggest however using a less saturated yellow for the highlight, since highlight colours are usually more towards white. And you should use the highlights to make the shading a bit less symmetrical. In your reference picture for example, the highlight on the head is above his right eye since the light is coming from an angle, so you could do something similar.

I know it looks flat, but every attempt that I make just makes it look worse. Would someone provide an example or edit or something to help me with that?

It looks more vibrant but the light doesn't seem real to me. I'm just not sure where to put the light.

Since I'm not getting another response for that, I'll post this. It's an insect-like creature. I have the actual set, but here's an example. Link.
