Amazonian Woman and Achilles

on: April 14, 2009, 02:55:48 pm
A piece for a challenge, I already submitted it, but I still want to get this right.

The challenge was to sprite a hero of ancient myth/religion.
It's Achilles if you couldn't tell.

and I'll just post this here instead of making a new topic:

I didn't get the title till I saw his heel  :blind: anyway, my only issue is the cape, which looks more cracked than tattered, like its a rock or something.

But the arrow is going through the Achilles tendon, not the heel, which was his vulnerability.

First post edited with another PA.

I want to do something that can really challenge me, I want to attempt to do an anatomically correct portrait this time, any crits before I clean this up more?
I know most of the problems are with the eyes, no?

Ya there are quite a few crits actually.

I highly recommend finding some reference. A picture of a similar pose that you can study from. If nothing else you can go to posemaniacs.com and find a pose with a similar angle.

Now I did a paintover of your portrait to show you the correct ( or close anyway ) proportions for the pose your trying to draw.

Here it is overlayed with yours.

Here it is by itself.

I would find a basic tutorial on how to draw a human face. I think there are a few on this site in the general section.

Just a few of the major problems.. The left eye is too close to the edge of the face ( for that angle ). The forehead is too prominent, makes her look like an infant. No chin. The left shoulder ( your left ) is sagging.

Keep up the effort, the only way to get good is by practice. Oh yes, and study some reference.

Oh ya and I like the roman, but his cape looks like a solid object.

Pay more attention to (her) left cheek in evileye's edit. You kinda messed that up.

Your crits are always obscure to me. It would be nice if you could be more clear about what you mean.

Her cheeks look puffed out, like she's holding her breath.
