I you use RGB sliders like I do, I just guess at the halves of colors.
Need me to demonstrate?  I just usually take a guess at the half between the two colors..

Like Shrike said, it's a lot of guesswork and approximation, especially when working with a fixed palette. Best way to learn is to experiment. Save the DDr image and open up in something like Graphics Gale. Switch to 8bit mode and try altering the values of the AA and observe what happens to the edges. You'll see that as your AA colour gets closer to the white or red each of these sides will appear to shrink or grow and the jagginess will increase/decrease.

As I'm still learning, I usually have a window/tab open with a site that shows me what a blended color will be, after choosing 2 or 3 colors, and I either pick the exact color or something close to it. I suppose after a while it will become second-nature to me and I will no longer need to guess. Maybe, you'd like to try it too? I don't know if anyone knows any good sites for this, I think helm posted a good one a while back. I just google it.

watch the video, and pay attention to the RGB sliders.
The final result, because the quality of the video is ugh:

Hope this helps!

EDIT
Do you guys think this video is worthy to post in the video tut section of this forum?  Would you say it's of good quality?

Later

I actually think the circle looks more circular without the little extensions you put on each cardinal direction edge.  Just an example of how AA can affect the shape of something.

Yeah, I don't necessarily approve of doing that last thing, but each to their own, I suppose. Nice tutorial.

Oh, and I noticed that only the left and right sides of the circle were AA'ed in the end result. I didn't go back to check where the problem occured, but it's likely due to all the flipping. Should probably fix that, unless you intended for it to be like that, for some odd reason?
