help needed with the fire animation

I need to make 32x32 8 frames looping fire animation but first attempt turned out pretty ugly animation wise (can't show it because of the NDA ) I'm in bit of a hurry with this project, so I figured maybe you guys know some tips or reference how to create realistically moving fire in small amount of frames.. it's not going to be bottom up kind of a flame but more like wind blowing from the side type of flame.

you're talking about a big fire right? not just some candle light...

If you have a movie where they light a torch or a fire, try study the scene and the fire in particular.
Notice how it dances whit the wind and occasionally spits a few "pixels"
Fire also moves relatively fast, so 8 frames shouldn't be too few.


Some movies they light a fire in (where you also get the time to study it): "6 days and 7 nights", "pirates of the Caribbean", "Cast Away" and "Gangs of New York"

It's probably easier to understand whit an example ^^;

After looking around on google, this gif was one of the better ones you can work off of.

You have to remember that fire is wild, but that doesn't mean the flames will move completely randomly. The seperate flames will sort of "writhe" upward, and they become smaller as they go, some seperating and disappearing as little fire bits. There's my two cents~
