Evileye...any improvement?

Some. You need to shift his belly under the head more, and possibly the right leg also.

Does anyone have a good reference I can check out?

Edit:  A small update

Edit again: another update.  Should I have the mouth so exaggerated?

Ahh, this looks so much better when the face isn't static :)

I wish I could have gotten more done today but I must be off... so here's where I am for Sunday.

Heck yeah, much better with head movement, more life and character. Can't help but still perceive the red gums as blood. Yeah, I think you understand what I meant about the isometric technique, though I've never tried it before so it's more just a blind suggestion.

I think all the help has given me more patience with this.  Though I really should be rushing it...

Anyways I started working on the side view again.  I decided to go ahead and try and fix it by making its skeleton.  Here's the progression. What do you think, if I flesh this out....problem solved?

That looks much better, nice work. Good idea building it up from a skeleton first.

If this approach was used more, I'm sure there would be a lot less problems. (And I don't just mean you.)
