Alright!

The previous (pre-light-gray-blue robot) color ramps have a bit more interesting feeling to them.  The planet, on the other hand, is much better in the newer one.  So I went and mixed them.

ptoing: you'll get sued for that when some kid black out or go into convulsions while watching your LCD-laced stuff. :)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Yes, it seems that the best solution is somewhere in between.
I'll also try tinting some bits of the robot more like the planet to see how it would look before I set on the final palette.
I'd like to keep the illusion of having different color ramps and yet having them sit well together.

I know this piece is already 'done', and it looks absolutely superb as is, but I think it would be great if the robot were to interact with the planet, or even the people on it.

Perhaps the robot could be connected to the planet, and sprouting robotic tentacles through certain places, and terrorizing/killing off the inhabitants of the planet, who may or may not be fighting back.

Just an idea.

Again, I think it's great, but there's potential for so much more.

The robot is whistling and tap-dancing. The people are presumably being entertained by it. Honest.

Anyway,

This is probably the final iteration. Couldn't really make up my mind between a more balanced and more colorful palette. This is somewhere in-between.
Also I repixelled some bits to fix errors that became apparent when I changed the original colors, plus I fixed the right eye, cause everyone thought it sucked.

I tried to tint parts of robot to be more brownish like the planet but I have only one index for that and it's not the ideal brightness for the job so it looked a bit crappy.
Probably should have picked the right colors early in the process to make the most of it. Getting thoroughly sick of this piece by now.
