Alien Breed has decent art.

Sokoban type games are usually characterized by horrible examples of pixel art.  But what the hell, here's the cream of the crap:

Dibs doing neat sokoban tiles!

Um, lots of top view space shooters have nice examples of top view sprites. >_< I'm having a brain fart otherwise.  I can probably edit this later with better instances of top view maze type games.

I like this stuff for topdown perspective stuff/ topdown mazes:

sword of fargoal
various pokemon games
zelda: a link to the past for the snes, (and link's awakening for the gb, and oracle of seasons/ages for the gbc, and the original zelda)
adventures of lolo
dragon quest (especially the later nes ones, and the remake of the first ones on the snes)
robotrek, and soul blazer, for the snes
warcraft: orcs and humans
fire emblem series, especially on the gba
guardian of paradise
