Action Milk Commander Game [WIP]

on: December 22, 2008, 07:22:17 pm
This is one of my game maker projects.
Its an action shooter based on robots trying to take over the earth and milk.
Im not going into too much detail with the story, as it may ruin the game :P.
I am using a NES inspired pallet.
I am still working on most of the graphics in the game, and the HUD which i have not displayed in the screen-shot mainly because it is only half finished.
Criticism is most appreciated!

I think it looks pretty cool, retro. But the main character (I think?) doesn't read totally well, I thought it was a duck for a while, but I'm pretty sure it's not, now. And, that wall tile looks really funky, and not like a traditional wall tile at all. I also think the inside background, that green wall, should lose it's highlight, to present darkness better. Especially being under that ceiling, I mean, there's no light in there, so how is it being lit up?

Thanks,
Ive gotten rid of the highlight off of the green brick tiles.
And i have added more detail to the facial area of the main character to make him look more human.

Those trees confused me for a while, the patterns really crazy and the combination of regular and double pixels looks great.

Firstly, the characters outline is coloured whereas the enemies(i assume) have black outlines, its just inconsistent and i think you could boost the characters readability if you used a black outline and your current outline colour as a shadow.

Secondly, theres a bunch of banding on the bridge, the non-brick/non-grate tiles, the grey saucer thing and lastly the clouds. Theres an indepth explanation of banding in the following link (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=7442.0) in Arachne's posts.

Thanks :),
I have edited my bridge tile sprite:

I have gotten rid of the shadowing of the clouds,
as now that i look at it, i see that it is not needed.
I have also edited the pop-up turret (grey-saucer)

As for the main character, i was using the same technique as the NES game:
Jackie Chan Kung Fu Action, using a different outline colour for the main character to make him more out-standing.
(In-game screenshot taken from Jackie Chan Kung Fu Action)

However i have changed the main character to an outline of black, and he is now alot more readable.
:)
