WIP - One tiny little block of pixelart

on: December 22, 2008, 03:09:22 am
Okay, so inspired by some of the huge collabs here, one of my friends decided to start an IsoCollab of her own, but because she didn't know how many folks would participate, she decided to do a puny one to start off with to gauge how popular it was.

I decided to lend a hand as I'm way out of practice with my pixelart, and could use an excuse to hone my skills before participating in one of the real deals here.

So far, I'm happy with it, but I noticed I went a bit trigger-happy with the pallette. That's one thing I need to improve on, colour conservation, so if anyone has any tips that would be great.

The other thing that is really, REALLY bothering me is the stream of liquid. I can't figure out how to make it look... not... crap.
Here's a bigger picture for your convenience.

Any and all critique is welcome. Thanks, guys.

I just did an edit on the pipe and stream of liquid.

I think it reads much better now and i reduced a shade on the green pallet at the same time.

Wow, thanks. That DOES look a lot better.
I might still throw in a white hilight, but otherwise I will update in the thread as the piece progresses (I'm going to take more blocks).

-Edit-

Instead of going and doing an outright copypasta, I decided to have the edited picture open as reference while I worked on mine next to it. This is what I have now.

Your palette is a bit lacking. It has a bunch of browns, a decent greyscale and a few greens. Where are the blues, reds and some other color?

You can tighten up the amount of browns you have.

Some items worth looking at:

Good luck, this is a good way to practice iso work.

Thanks a lot, man! These are really helpful!
For the record, we've progressed pretty far with these colours so far (there are three of us working on it), but I've just reserved another couple of blocks so I'll try adding in a few new colours.
