1) How would you define pillow shading? I've read that it's this: but some people here wrote different.

2) Whats a good, free program for putting together gifs.

3) Does this forum have an IRC channel? If so whats the address?

4) What a good image hosting site? Imageshack doesn't worm for me.

Thanks,

~Pie

Hey IlikePie.
I can answer this question quickly. I would suggest you get an account with www.photobucket.com, it's free and you get tonnes of space plus albums you can relate back to later. But out of interest why doesn't Imageshack work for you?

Imageshack does work.
You were just linking the wrong thing.
For having it work with the [ img ] tags, you have to click on the link underneath all the code they provide you, the one that says "Show Adv Links".
That will give you the direct link to the image.

I recommend UnFreez. Been using it for four years with no problems.

Thanks for the replies,
I have another question, does anyone have Arne's 16 color pallet discussed here. (There are no images there)

There are images... And this seems to be the latest version (v20) And any major changes, I probably won't use anyway cause this version is awesome! :P

1) It means that, you have an object or an anything that has a light source directly on the front of it, whatever it is. This is a major no-no, as it's boring, cheap and unimaginative.

2) I love and use Graphics Gale. Spend the eighteen bucks, and its way worth it. If you don't want to spend money, i think don't have much to recommend. If you already have Photoshop, try Imageready. It works. Otherwise, still no idea.

3) no idea. :P

4) www.majhost.com I switched to Imageshack for a while, but i love Maj's easy, fast and uncluttered and simple everything. :D Try it. My first love.

Good luck pixeling!

About pillow shading:

I believe it is not just that the light source is directly in front of the object, but you also fail to use light to suggest the shape of the object. Instead you just make the parts near the edge darker, and the middle light. This makes it look blobby, formless, and "pillowy".
