You should stick with the upper version and give some followthrough to the head/beak.

it definitely needs to have wings moving (thing of chicken in Zelda games)
i'd be tempted to say having the mouth open will help him breathing enough to run (not mentionning "croeew"ing his fear)

Unsure about his whole posture. Running birds usually have their legs more "in the middle of their body" so that their tail balance their head, and that they could have their body can be "falling forward" during the run. Toucan definitely does not look like being made for running (and thus the animation is fun) ... tail pointing upwards (or just backwards, but not downwards) might help ... maybe.

So be it, I was trying to make the head look super-3-d by turning and such but it isn't jiving, so we'll just do the simpler version first and change the posture of the berd, thanks for CCs

I see in your wip you were trying to add an artificial head bobbing...do it from the hips, do it for the whole torso not just the head...I know people usually give "make his head bob" as an *advice* but it often looks artificial unless you want it to be a specific tic for your character

thank you conceit, I didn't like the head movement much, I liked that it added more movement to look at though

The beak should be almost as large as it's body...I know.

The body bounces right now, but it has no influence from that bounce. Muscles aren't THAT static, in fact, nothing is. The tail should wave with a little delay (followthrough), the neck should swing down at impact on the ground (at the depression of the movement curve of the torso) and look back up at the peak of the lifting of the torso. The beak would go along with this as it is attached to the head, making the movement more excessively visible. The further you go in this, the more cartoony your character gets, but by the looks of the current body movement, cartoony just might be what you want for this character.

I'd love to do an edit to this as I like the sprite and where this is going, if you feel I can be of help, please post separate frames. Good luck on this :)

Hello, Trevor #2, still a work in progress, I havent gotten around to doing anything more than replacing the body and intended to do some more expressive movement on different body parts. Thanks for your CC.
If you'd like to edit go hog toucan ...wild ->

You can do so much more with the body!
It's mostly just leg movement and up and down.
But the mouth can wobble down, you can make his face turn left and right a bit.
I made a sloppy quick run for you to demonstrate some ideas:

Thanks. But as I said before: I haven't gotten to that part yet :) I havent gone back to work on it since the last animation.  :D

Your animation mock-up is insanely cute though, thanks, it's toucan-licious. It's actually much better than what I was trying to do on animation #2 in the first post. Reminds me of the painter boss doodles in castle crashers.

We should do a super-realistic version and a super cartoony version and then another version.

Tail movement, maybe?

I couldn't resist:

TOUCAN Beeeeeeam! Super duper rushed and rough idea
