Dude man his eyes are shaped like upside-down trapezoids man. Make them smaller, make his pupils bigger. More contrast in the colors, gotta fix up the shape of his nose, plus maybe face. The shading is rough man, face is complex as, no doubt.

Here's a small edit man, this dude looks like a cro-magnus idiot:

Also add lips to him too, mouths are not just lines. The top lip is usually darker, and the bottom lighter.

your edit looks like one pupil is larger than the other like he's just had an eye exam or something.
I'm going for a semi-chiseled look, so I'd like to have hard edges.
I listened on the eyes, the were trapezoidal, so I made them round. Couldn't do anything to the pupils without making it look like he's going to bust up crying/on-drugs or something.
I'm also not going for 100% realism, obviously no one has straight-up RED hair.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate your help, but I'd like to keep some aspects stylized.

Nose still looks strange, but I'd like it to remain large-ish.
Went around the lip's little, not quite sure about them.

As for the shading, all I can say is it's far better shading then I've done on human faces in the past.

I've tried editting this a wee bit to see what I can do to improve it, without flooding you with pictures and tutorials on how to construct a head. I don't think there's anything wrong with how you're going about this thus far.

Tried to sculpt the face more, gave his forehead an extra 2 pixels in height.
Little bit of work on his nose too, it would shadow the left if your lightsource but I feel you still need some definition to the nostrils.
Some more contrast in your palette I think is vital, maybe use some of the hair's colour into the face could be handy in keeping your colourcount down.
I've not used black for the minute cus it just seems too much of a jump to me, though it would be useful for key dark spots.
I accidently coloured in the hair the one darker shade, but I think it's best to work that up from that, keeping the lighing in mind over the swishes and curls.
