Fighter and portrait

on: January 08, 2006, 11:59:16 pm
hi all,
just finished my portrait for scuba's king of spriters collab.

im going to leave it a day or two, before i submit it, so i thought, i would get some comments on it from you guys.
been staring at it all day, so it would be good to get some fresh eyes to have a look at it.
i've also posted the fighter sprite, feel free to comment on that one as well.

That's wicked. I would try lightening up the shadow around her eye on the small one. It makes her eybrow look huge and bushy.

I like it a lot, Kenneth. I would love to see her animated. Hell, I'd love to see her in a playable fighter.

thumbs up! pretty well done. she seems a bit more fragile then on the sprite :D
Image size doesn't matter! It's what you do with your pixels that counts!

i absolutely love it.
it doesnt look like it uses 20 colors but i guess it does. is the back part of her hair supposed to be a different color? if so it would benefit from some shading :)

nice!
definatly Kenneth material.
The little sprout characters by her feet are a nice touch.
She has weird kneecaps, hehe..
Something odd going on with her neck I think, but I can't pinpoint exactly what, perhaps its something related to her left shoulder(our right)..

She's darn beautiful in that portrait.  Lovely clean cartoon style.  Dunno why but the sprite's face looks more masculine to me and not enough like the character in the portrait.  Both are extremely well done and stylish though.

I think it's the eyebrows on the sprite that gives it the somewhat masculine feel since the shadow and the eyebrow are close to the same hue (so it makes them look thick). But they're both beautiful~ :D Very clean and vibrant.

Hey that's some nice character you've got yourself there Kenneth. I mainly agree with Kaz's comment on the way she seems more gracious or feminine in the portrait than what the sprite represents, she looks rougher there, like you should probably add some more muscle definition on the portrait (although I think she would lose her charm that way). It's no big deal actually, it's just nit-picking heh. This is a nice piece as is, but somehow the eye in the sprite does look a bit dark as some people have pointed out. You should just tweak that a bit and you're royal.

Nice work, thanks for sharin'

Guess I canīt say anything aside from what has already been said before...Itīs purely brilliant! I agree with the masculinity thing that was said before, though...

Very nice.
It kinda looks like her left shoulder is much longer than her right. This is because the neck looks to be on an angle such as / / while it should be like more like / | or / \. Hope that helps, heh. Alliteration!

i agree with everyone here, i think both the portrait and the sprite are great! the left knee cap really bothers me tho... it sticks out too much from the tibia... if it has any bones lol, cuz it seems like its supposed to be tre- like, but other than that is all good.

*saves pics*, fantastic work Ken, as always. I'm really digging the colors on this piece. Those seedlings are uber cute as well ^^. Like the others already said, the gaia fighter sprite's face  seems a bit masculine, while the portrait is quite feminine.

lovely, espc. the colorchoice
i've got no crits on the portrait - perfection imo
the kneecaps on the fighter looks quite odd though, the bottom shading on the left (her right) knee is too dark, the right knee is too far to the right and is ephasized too much, makes her look a bit butchy and unfeminine. Also, as alex said, the neck - face transition looks a bit off, moving the head a pixel to the right might help but i dunno.
Amazing job though
