Low Poly Pixel art attempt

I took a try at making some 3 dimensional pixel art as I absolutely love how it looks. I've been using maya and photoshop. Unfortunately I ran in to a number of problems.
Surprisingly though my UV lines line up perfectly to the edges of the pixels (I pixel snapped them). Strange things happen. The pixels bleed in certain areas where I don't think they should and are cut off in others. Because of this you can see his face texture has been shifted to the left and down almost an entire pixel. Also I've still yet to figure out how to make it illuminate itself in maya without going completely white.

I'm pretty sure the color effect is usually achieved by actually texturing the faces to emulate lighting (dakrer blues on sides and underneath) and turning off most/all lighting effects.

I don't use Maya, but there should be an option for making a material shadeless (100% self-illumination).  Most people also turn off texture filtering and AA (AKA Oversampling) becaue with very tiny textures it can do funny things, like what is happening here.

Nice little design.  I like the look of low-poly pixel stuff as well.

You might also find that the option you need to play with is called Luminosity. Setting this to 100% for your texture\material will make your object full bright and any other lighting\shading in the scene will not affect it.

You need to turn off texture interpolation too.. that's what's making it blurry.

unfortunately all efforts to get this work have fallen through, I guess I'll just have to find a way to use 3DS max.

Made a little edit on the colours and some minor texture stuff.
Mainly the colours are rather boring. Unifying the heart and yellowish border ramp helps as well so you can have a bit more shading on the mouth and border.
Also I would not "fold" colours around the edges, like you did on the top of the head and arms. It muddles with the volumes.

Keep it up.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.
