Online game sprites

on: September 01, 2008, 05:22:55 am
Here are some sprites for a mockup online game I'm making. I doubt I'll ever use them, but I'd like C&C anyways, unlike my other topic which (last time I checked) has 274 views and 0 replies.  :blind:

Tutorial Blob: 5 HP, 0 MP, 0 ATK

Worker Ant: 15 HP, 0 MP, 5 ATK

Note: I will try to animate the ant, but after I get some criticism on the base sprite first.  :)

Is there anything specific you are hoping to improve?
If these pieces are part of a mockup, it might be more helpful to see them actually IN the mockup.

I agree with Salvage. Create a scene using your bg tiles and put the creatures on it.

I think your main problem here is that your characters aren't really all that interesting. Also, the shading that you've used is barely visible.

I made an edit:

Now all I've done is add a more interesting texture to your blob, he's now more bubbly and slimy. Also, I hue-shifted the colours and increased the contrast. If you do something like this it will be a lot more interesting.

@JJ Naas & Salvage:

The problem is, I don't have any BG tiles yet. These two sprites are the only things I've made so far.

@ Skamocore:

Hmm... I agree about the characters not being interesting, but I'd like to keep them cartoony and simple. I'll try out some different textures and see how they go!  :)

EDIT:

I tried out a texture. I'm not sure if it's better, or worse...

I thought this was the same project, the character sprites being similar.

Nah, this is completely different. Otherwise I would have put them in the same topic. The Halfling's Quest game, I'm actually working on. This, for the time being, is just practice.  :)
