[Feedback] [WIP] 1Bit Pokemon Delivery

on: September 13, 2017, 10:23:05 am
Brace Yourself Pokemon are coming

But jokes aside was overlooking this abandoned thread here: https://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=15404.0;all
Then came up with a small project similar in mind

The sprites are 3-colors, but will use/decrease to 2 tones soon as the animations are complete
Edited @Vagrant's sprites to a similar style of the originals, also tried fixing north-walk animations, but mine's no better
Recycled a few screens from the referenced thread. Using @number1hitjam's battle menu as a placeholder for now
Also the store is a demake of ones found in newer versions, if correct

Also tried to adapt the Soul Silver intro

Found Pokemon to always have had a comicbook-cartoon sorta tone, so trying to incorporate Earthbound style influences

Don't know if this is horrible or not
Uses 08x12 sprites with a 16x16 tileset for the most part
Features a Totodile vs Pikachu, with a Magnemite close to the river

Considering a NES style instead, as idk if that would be more original
Also don't know if the mockup exceeds NES hardware limitations, as never encountered one

i guess NES style would be more original since the black/white does still look quite similar to the gameboy 4 color pokemon games.

The pokemons on the NES screenshot are really hard to read, it looks a bit like you just put them into an resize without interpolation. I know it is hard to work with this little amount of pixel but i guess i have to try to focus on certain aspects of the pokemon (head, feet, arms) and make them be recognizable as such.

As a note, I personally like to think of Commercial Critiques as perpetually active! Lots of cool stuff happened in the Pokemon CC, and I'd never be opposed to more of it happening!

As for your piece, is there any reason you're going with such small sprites? Very few games would have such a screen: sprite ratio except for maybe some tactics games.

Here is a hack make of Pokemon Yellow for NES, utilizing graphics from multiple series that might be of interest:

Went back to an old project trying to make edits and additions

I for sure want to make a top-down rpg similar to the classic games, but with a makeover and a new perspective.
I tried to put more perspective into the in-game mockup but I still feel it is lacking.
Also added more scenes and additional content, most of it still needs touch up.
Anyone have any edits, comments, or critiques to add? Anything helps
Thanks ahead for any input
