Oh, very solid start, i love the expression, and for me, you captured the escense of don Quijote perfectly (in a very stylized way) obviously its very WIPish still, but id love to see it finished.

-The way the shoulders are positioned leads me to believe that his right arm is higher than his left...obviously i cant really say for sure, since there's no body, but if you didnt intend on that, you should change it.
-Maybe is due to the Wipish nature of the pice, but i think the neck lines are a bit over exagerated/should be toned down a bit.
-Try to use another background colour that isnt white...as it tends to mess with your colour choises.

Keep us posted with the progress, it looks fantastic to me!

Thank you for your comments Krut.
- I think that I will make his right arm indeed... holding a spear
- It should be corrected in the update
- I was thinking about drawing clouds and maybe a hill with a windmill

Your inital color choices are far superior to your edit. The new colors look too standard and unrealistically rubbery.
The newer one is cleaner but you should reduce the "Banding" and "Pillowshading"

I like the design alot but I think you used a reference right?

Your comments are interesting...
Well, about the colours, they could change, I will see. It's also a question of taste and I don't especially want to have a realistic picture.
I don't really know how to reduce the "Banding" and "Pillowshading"yet... I will check. Is there any tutorial about that ?

About the design, I did not used any reference no. I wrote "don quichotte" in google and look at some pictures, that's all. I liked this one: PICTURE

Thanks for your help !

I definitely prefer the original colors over either of these other ones, they were much more bold and stylish!

I agree with those others, though I think that the dark rings around the eyes are the main thing that the later versions lack.

Hello. This is spot-on Quichotte attitute and you deserve congratulations just for that. However you pixelling needs work.
Do a search on the boards for posts about "Banding", it'll be come clear to you what I removed in the edit below.

This is so far strictly a contrast edit. You use too many colors and a few are error colors with just 2-3 pixels or less. This is now 15 colors or so.

Cropped to work over since I didn't want to do so much detail work. Don't think so much as a spriter, allow forms to not be outlined. Don't hug outlines with shading, banding is pretty awful. Use your shades to your advantage. Don't be afraid of contrast and the power black gives you to separate elements. Work on your AA a lot!

This is a final color edit of what I'd go with, personally.

imho, there are two things that are very interesting in the original post:
- the shadow on the face
- the insane look of his eyes (makes me think of Van Gogh himself)

Helm's edit does a good job on keeping the shadow that you lost in your own edit #1, but he flattened the eyes, losing the second interesting thing.

Btw, helm, stunning job on the hair & stuff. i'll keep it for later reference.

Helm: I believe his eyes are a bit too fierce and evil in the final edit, which is a bit out of character. He was mad and fierce at times, but not evil, just a bit deluded and senile. The old age and senility should be more visible in his eyes. His eyes could be like that when he sees windmills, but for a default facial expression it's a bit too extreme I think.
