FrostPumpkin

on: August 22, 2008, 01:09:53 pm
Hi everyone !

I was thinking about my handle, FrostPumpkin, and I thought it would be cool to represent it in pixels, and get a proper avvy btw

Here it is, but I'm not happy with the ice AT ALL.
I made some test about colors, don't take attention of the green ice xD

I will try to make it more transparent, maybe ?

Thanks

I would suggest giving the eyes and the cut out teeth some actual depth, show the thickness of the pumpkin.

Also, if you will use it as an avatar here I would flip it horizontally, so that it looks towards the forum and not away.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

Thanks Ptoing, I was thinking about rotate it horizontally, and this is right, it's more effective  :y:

made the pumpkin more thick and tried to show the transparency of the ice (tell me if it doesn't work).

looks more like some sort of mineral crystalization growing out of it..
i'd suggest blending the ice in a way so that it seems as if it is lightly coating the surface of the pumpkin, or looks like it has melted over the face but froze again in the process.. cuz at the moment, it seems seperate from the pumpkin, almost like hair or a jagged helmet..
good stuff so far, i'm liking the color.

I think the ice itīs doesnīt work. The ice is very complicated to draw.
Here you can see a lot of ice, check this cinematic http://www.wow-europe.com/wrath/intro.xml maybe inspire you to make a good ice.

with the new transparent areas, instead of just having the orange show through use a color thats part way between the color of the pumpkin and the ice, the way it is now makes it seem as if there are holes or something.

Hi, I've made some new tests about colors, especially on the pumpkin itself.

But this one looks more like a crystal pumpkin.

I might should remake the ice, but I don't have the motivation to do it right now. I know I shloud but I can really represent ice on this pumpkin.

Thanks

the ice shouldnt be casting such harsh shadows.. the ice should help illuminate the pumpkin due to how light refracts within the ice.

Originals with orange pumpkin are considerably better because:
1) It's four times as readable (instant understanding that this is a pumpkin we're looking at)
2) Blue + Orange = Compliments which is definitely more pleasing to the eye

This seems like a very tricky project to render properly and I wish you the best of luck.  Great effort so far but don't go in that latest post's direction at all.
